Ian Evatt hopes to have games fixed up for Wanderers’ fringe players sooner rather than later.
The Bolton boss has spoken of the need to get some members of his squad game-time, especially with the Whites not running a formal Under-23 or reserve side.
Evatt has, however, encountered problems on that front for large parts of the season, most recently the hectic fixture schedule, but believes things will change in the weeks to come.
“We will probably have fixtures and friendlies and I think there are two weeks in March where we don’t have a midweek fixture in but we’d like to have a game,” he told The Bolton News.
“But for now we have got so many games we need everybody on board because you don’t know what is around the corner.
“The squad we have named and identified can all play their part. They are a talented group so we need everyone and until we have those free Tuesdays there is not a lot we can do.”
Issues below the EFL have also hampered Wanderers’ ability to get their players fixed up with football.
Jamie Mascoll this week moved to League of Ireland side Waterford on loan and others would also be allowed out.
The National League however is in a real state of flux with the top tier’s decision to play on being opposed by some clubs. The season has been curtailed below that level.
“We have got players who are available for loan but the big issue we have is what is happening with the National League,” Evatt said.
“There seems to be a bit of in-flighting and I think I saw that Dover were refusing to play any more games.
“It’s a challenging situation in the pandemic and clubs don’t have the money they once did because there are no supporters in. That level of football has been affected more than most.
“It is difficult for the lads who are not in the team but that is part of football.
“If that’s the case you have to use every day as an opportunity to get in my eyesight, back in the squad, back in the team. The door is certainly not shut on anyone.”
