We have profiled three players who have played for both Bolton Wanderers and Colchester United.

Aidan Davison

Born in the North East, Davison started out in non-league with Billingham Synthonia before a move into the professional game with Notts County in 1988. Making just a single appearance for the Magpies, he also had spells with Leyton Orient, Bury, Chester, and Blackpool without managing to establish himself.

Earning his stripes during a spell with Millwall (1991-1993), he signed for Bolton Wanderers in 1993 for a fee of £25,000 and went onto spend almost four years at Burnden Park – making 49 appearances before signing for Bradford City in 1997.

After an initial brief stint in West Yorkshire, he spent time with Grimsby Town and Sheffield United before a return to Valley Parade in March 2000 after a loan spell with the Bantams was made permanent. Remaining with City until the summer of 2003, he returned to Grimsby for a second spell where he spent the 2003/04 season before spending the final four years of his career with Colchester United. For United, between 2004 and 2008, he made a total of 109 appearances.

Marc Tierney

Coming through the youth system at Oldham Athletic, the Prestwich-born former left-sided full-back made his professional debut with the Latics in August 2003 and went onto make 47 appearances before signing for Shrewsbury Town in January 2007.

Making a total of 90 appearances (1 goal) for the Shrews, he had a brief loan spell with Colchester United during his time under contract with the Shropshire outfit before making the move permanent in January 2009.

Racking up 85 appearances (1 goal) for United, his form attracted Norwich City who snapped him up in January 2011 and he would go onto spend just over two years at Carrow Road. Making 39 appearances for the Canaries, he signed for Bolton Wanderers in May 2013 and would go onto make just 9 appearances for the club during a two-year stay.

Marvin Sordell

Still only 30 years of age, Sordell called time on his playing career in 2019 having spent the latter stages with Burton Albion and Northampton Town. A graduate of Watford’s academy, Sordell made his professional debut for the Hornets in August 2009 and would go onto make 81 appearances (27 goals) before a £3 Million move to Bolton Wanderers in January 2012.

During his time with Wanderers, he represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics but in his two-and-a-half-year stay with the club, he managed just 29 appearances (8 goals). Following a loan spell with Charlton Athletic, Sordell signed for Burnley in July 2014.
