I think that all this might have been pre planned in the respect that they are simply fitted to know the amount you are using and charge accordingly. Some people have given incorrect readings in I would have thought to pay less.
It stops people stealing gas by switching meters over Willy nilly.
If you don’t pay after having the smart meters fitted then you are simply cut off the supply at the press of a button. Voila! It saves the companies costs and time with legal action, bailiffs and locksmiths!
