TEAM NEWS: Key pair back from minor injuries for Cambridge United clash 12941697

Wanderers will bring MJ Williams and Lloyd Isgrove back into the squad to face Cambridge United on Saturday.

Ian Evatt confirmed that minor injuries kept the midfield pair out of the Carabao Cup tie at Wigan on Tuesday night – but that they will be back in the reckoning for this weekend.

“The reason MJ and Lloyd were not involved on Tuesday was that they had a knock, and MJ in particular is a very important player for us because we haven’t got like for like and we didn’t want to risk them,” he said.

“With Baka being out and Xav since pre-season, it made up my mind that we couldn’t risk losing anyone long term. We trusted the others and I don’t think anyone did themselves any harm at all.

“They didn’t let themselves down, it was a tight game and they will be better for the experience and the run out.

“Some of those lads have never played in a game like that, with the atmosphere it had, George Thomason, Liam Gordon, Harry Brockbank – it is good for them, good experience, and I think they will learn from it.”

Wanderers have no new injury issues and will also have Ricardo Santos (pictured), Antoni Sarcevic, Eoin Doyle, Declan John, Gethin Jones and Joel Dixon – all benched at Wigan – back into the equation.

“The players are all training well,” Evatt said. “The ones who played against Oxford, you’d think we would have a similar team to that,” he said. “They have done well for the last couple of games, some needed that little bit of a rest on Tuesday but they are refreshed now and are ready to go.”

Will Aimson will also re-join the first team training group and potentially play a part in next Tuesday night’s Papa John’s Trophy clash at the UniBol.

“Will should be joining in fully tomorrow (Friday), today was his last day of rehab,” he said.

“He won’t be involved on Saturday but I think he will train Monday. He won’t start against Port Vale but we will try and get him some football then build up his training from there.”
