Working from home?

Just seen this article on the BBC website and the survey reckons that full time office working will never come back.

Anyone on here work from home on a regular basis and would rather carry on that way even when Covid is not so much of an issue?

I have a couple of times because of isolating but it's not really suitable for me as i need to be in the department (no bed pan washer at home  ) to sort out the many issues and shortages we have.

Last time i was off they had ran out of laptops so packed up my work pc and sent it home for me, Mrs Pig wasn't happy having that on the dining room table i can tell you!

I also think you can miss out on the social side of work if you are not there very often so i'm not a big fan.

This may not apply to most of the old duffers on here as i know a few of you are retired now and waiting to be shipped off to a nursing home

I've always worked from home in my office under the boiler.

It saves on a lot of extra expenses.

How dare you. I'll have you know I keep at least 3 police departments in full time employment. Interpol have issued at least 2 red notices.
I'm not retired. I consider myself an employer.

I hate work as much as the next person but i think i'd get fed up being at home all day on my own longterm.

I don't think I would have liked it very much, I'd miss the social interaction - and I don't just mean talking football or telly, I used to get a lot of work done by chatting to people informally and off the record so to speak, sometimes its easier to resolve internal issues that way, build trust and networks, tune into the grapevine and listen to the gossip - better understand what is happening and why.

I always found out more of what was happening from, the cleaners, caretakers, receptionists, colleagues I socialised and/or played sport with, etc, then most official channels!

My daughter however loves working from home - in fact it's allowed her to move to London not being office bound.

I've chatted to a few others who work from home too - two of home must be in their forties/fifties, the other just having started work after uni - and they all want it to continue.

Seems mad from a business point of view for your employer not to do so if you can operate that way because they can reduce costs by reducing office leasing costs and utility bills - why would they want you to return if they can save money and still deliver their service?

I foresee many office blocks being turned into residential properties in the coming years.

A friend of mine works from home, and his big problem is discipline. He finds it far too easy to stop for a brew, watch a bit of telly, take the dog out, or just get under his wife's feet.
To make matters worse, I've introduced him to the weird side of youtube. This won't end well.
If you have the discipline, it's not a problem, but, as Sluffy said, being in the office has a lot of advantages.

It's pretty normal for me although I do try to make up for it when I meet up with friends and when we go to the pub as you can never normally shut me up talking.

I have been known as rubber lips before now and that I could talk a glass eye to sleep.

I have missed the social interaction since COVID came along and contemplated changing jobs to do something outside to get outdoors a bit more and interact more with people..

I missed the social part of being at work last year but enjoyed sitting in the garden when I felt like doing on my own. Long term I think working at home in your pj's is probably bad for people's mental health. Got to ask yourself why so many people prefer being locked up at their house instead of being around people?
