According to The Great British class calculator I am -

Traditional working class
This class group scores low for economic, social and cultural factors, but they do have some financial security. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

  • Own their own home
  • Are older
  • Tend to mix socially with people similar to themselves

What are you?

Bit curious as I've come out as Elite- I'm not bragging about it.
My forebears would disown me as they were solid working class- ,electricians, gardeners, lorry drivers. As kids we had frequent unemployment -in reality not a pot to piss in.
Yet thanks to the (free) UK education system we've all done well.
Bit embarrassed though as I still think and act like  a working class kid from Daubhill!!

Established Middle Class for me, apparently.

Never thought of myself as anything other than working class, if I'm honest.

Although I'm not convinced that survey is asking all the right questions.

If they'd said:

Do you do any of the following -

Answer the door to the postman in your undies

Wee in the pond in the back garden when you're drunk and can't be arsed going up stairs

Eat chicken & mushroom Pot Noodles with peanut butter mixed in them

Own a pet named after a footballer

Throw things at Tory candidates when they come round asking you to vote for them

Own a wedding photo of you and the wife with an Elvis impersonator in it

.....I think my results would have been different.

I qualify for two of these. I've got a dog called Sam. And  don't pee in the pond when I'm pissed- I just pee out of the French windows as I don't have a pond.
Breadman- how can you be anything but Elite if you have a pond?

It's only a small one and we inherited it when we bought the house.

It wasn't my idea.....

But it does come in handy on a Saturday night.

Anyway...."French Windows".....?

We call ours the patio doors, cos we're not posh enough for "French Windows....."

New affluent workers
This class group is sociable, has lots of cultural interests and is in the middle of all the class groups in terms of wealth. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

  • Are young
  • Come from a working class background
  • Own their own home

2 out of 3 here for me.

The day I share anything with you is the day I know it's time to say goodbye to this world.

Established Middle Class and I'm not ashamed of it either. I've bloody earned every penny I've got and yes I do enjoy a diverse range of cultural activities, did go to university and am comfortably off, secure and established.

Don't take much notice of class,it means very little. If pushed I'd say I was a typical working class male. Having said that,I read the guardian and have a season ticket for the Halle. I'm really just a noble savage(feathers sustainably sourced).
