Dennis Politic won’t be recalled from his loan spell at Port Vale for the time being – but Ian Evatt insists his future at Wanderers is not over.
The Romania-born playmaker has been at Vale Park since August and is out of contract in the summer.
Politic has turned down the club’s offer of a one-year extension to his current deal but Evatt says negotiations between the club and the player’s representatives are not closed.
Wanderers have the option to recall him the 21-year-old this month but are currently planning to leave him in League Two as they concentrate on bringing in more signings.
“Everything is up in the air, we’re open to anything at the moment,” Evatt told The Bolton News.
“We have not made a decision on that (recalling Politic) and it is open at the moment.
“We are working really hard to bring in players, first and foremost, and once we have done that we can look at Dennis and loans.”
Politic has started the last two games for Vale since scoring twice against Burton Albion in the FA Cup. He now faces Premier League Brentford this weekend in the third round.
The winger has proved a popular signing in the Potteries but been largely consigned to the bench under manager Darrel Clarke.
Of his 14 appearances in all competitions, five have been from the bench as minor injuries stopped him from pushing on early in the season.
Politic’s fitness now appears to have improved and Evatt says there will be dialogue with the youngster during the current window.
“Obviously there’s discussions going on with ourselves and Port Vale and Dennis and his representatives all of the time and we’ll make the best decision we can for him and for us,” he added.
Meanwhile, fellow academy graduate Ronan Darcy also looks set for a loan spell in the second half of the season as part of Bolton’s New Year shake-up.
The midfielder spent three months with Norwegian side Sogndal, returning in December, but has remained annoyingly out-of-bounds over the last few weeks because he was not given international clearance to play.
That proved a frustration for the club as they struggled for numbers last month due to illness and injury.
Darcy continues to train with the first team and travelled to Rotherham at the weekend. It is understood Wanderers would like to send him out to a top National League or League Two side for more experience later this month.
Ian Evatt says a firm decision will be made on him, and defender Adam Senior, once incoming recruitment is sorted.
“Things are up in the air with it at the moment,” Evatt said.
“We’ve got transfer targets, we’ve got people we want to bring in and then we’ll make a call on who we loan out to further their development and who stays around.
“It’s very much still up in the air whilst there’s still negotiations for players coming into the club.”
