Dougie has managed 90 games and he's inexperienced for the task.

but we'd be happy to give JP the keys after 3 games, as long as they're all wins.

What if we win three he gets the job and then we lose 9 in a row... oh dear. It's all ifs buts and maybes I'm afraid. And i don't take too much notice of what the players say, didn't they say Coyle was the man a couple of hours before he got sacked.

Don't have to sign JP after 3 games though, how long was it until di matteo got the job? bloody ages considering how well he did.

If JP wins his first 3 games then whats the point in getting a new manager, ok he might only get 1 point from the next three games after that, then we could sack him, but we might as well keep him as caretaker if we are winning.

Im not saying I think JP will be a great manager, because to be honest I don't know, none of us do, but why are we in such a rush to sign Dougie Freedman? who finished 17th last year, also has little experience, and yeh might be 4th now, but like I saw someone say, Coyle has us in the top 5 in the premier league for a bit.

If we'd lost to Bristol we wouldn't even be having this debate, and thats my point really. Football is fickle as F. A loss tonight and JP will yesterdays news.

I just don't see what we're going to learn about JP in 3 games, you can't learn he's a top manager, you can't learn he's a bad manager, you can't learn anything. He would need to be given the job full time to see if he's up to it.

Let's be honest, none of us can agree on a name at the moment on who we want, some want JP/SL, Freedman, Di Canio, hell even Mcarthey has been mentioned by a few.

In a way i'm glad Freedman has been contacted, I would rather give a young manager a chance over some oldies who have failed at every club they have ever been at like Souness and MM.

I agree with that, if we had lost no one would want him. But there is no time limit on being a care taker, and we could wait until January before we gave him a job if it did come to it which would be enough time to asses him, and if he didn't prove up to it at any time during that we could quickly replace him.

I think the same fickleness applies to the people wanting Dougie though, if we had got him at the start of the season, after he had just finished 17th no one would be happy, if he were to lose his next three games most wouldn't want him and we probably wouldn't have wanted him 3 games ago.

But hey, hes just accepted the job:

Maybe it's the old cynic in me but I have to agree with other posts that Freedman could be using us to get a long term contract out of Palace!

I wouldn't take the bbc link as gospel, it's pretty much quoting everything that hs been said over the las 2 days.

Perhaps best to wait for The BEN to report that hes rejected us, then we will know hes signed for sure

I think that's part of this aswell, even if we were the ''bigger'' club than palace, he obviously loves them and by some considered a legend.

Wait for a story to break that they have offered him a new contract in the next 48 hours.

Hilarious tweet i just read.

I'd give the job to Jimmy Phillips, better than Freedman

better at what? Beating Bristol City 3-2 i guess.

our fans are embarrassing, i hope Freedman doesn't read twitter.

It just all seems like a mad rush to pacify a section of the fans, but I'm not that pacified myself. If, as it seems, JP et al have got the lads playing better football and have had a couple more days to work with them before tonight's encounter, the timing of this couldn't be worse.

As Lofty pointed out, we have time on our side to evaluate what we have and if necessary cast a much wider net.

Another £1.5 million plus whatever his team are paid that potentially we could have seen on the pitch goes west at the drop of a hat. Another set of fans pissed off with us. Three talented coaches, all former players, about to be dispensed with. And maybe any momentum that JP had started to build lost.

Genius.
