Well I only put the bet on as I saw he was odds on at two bookmakers and saw betfred still had him on 5/1 and had taken their eye off the ball. Bookies are rarely wrong. When was the last time you saw a bookie on a bicycle?

Can't understand some of the fans reaction to this one, I don't just mean on here either just in general.

On one hand they want an inexperienced manager and are calling for JP to get the job but we go for another who has his team of pretty much unknowns sitting in the play off places and they go fucking nuts over it. I'm one for giving JP a chance but I think Freedman is a sensible choice.

I wonder if some of the fans would be calling for JP to get the job if it had stayed 2-0 on saturday, I doubt it somehow.

I agree. SL was god awful when manager, JP had been part of the terrible coyle era. Yet done people call them the dream team. I like freedman, i agree he is far from a proven coach but palace are a weak team and yet he is doing really well with them and palace fans sound like they are all going to top themselves if he leaves, they clearly rate him.

I win £140 if we appoint Billy Davies.

You'd think betting on a Davies coming to Bolton would be a safe bet!

Nobody said anything other than give him a chance. It didn't stay at 0-2 did it? We dominated the possession and scored 3 - could have been more. Haven't seen that for a while have we?

Wolves away is a tough fixture and I'd just like to see how much (if any) further progress JP has made with the team, although this distraction with Freedman can't have helped.

So nobody has made him a Messiah, nobody has even suggested he should get the job - but a lot of people have said he should be given time to see what he can do....especially before we commit to a money-grabber who has done nothing of note to date.

I too am dismayed by the rush to have a new manager in place, especially after a rare victory. I could understand it if a special manager suddenly became available but Dougie Freedman?

This will be a disaster.

Freedman will start his talks on wednesday?!

How will that work, he can't possibly be taking charge of palace tomorrow?

NOPE.

It depends on the setup and the performance/workrate of players/organisation and so on. Not the result. Even if we didn't score the winner on Saurday I would still see the impact of the changs already made.

I would like to see us extend the JP/LSL partnership if only with a view to an extended temporary basis. They could not have given a better account of themselves or of their potential. All the reports coming out of the camp from players and staff are positive. And not just positive but extremely encouraging. Players are happy and motivated and feeling the benefits of the new input.

We could all see positive points from the game on Saturday. Training methods have improved by all accounts, discipline (as in positioning and so forth) has improved. The ideas on the pitch seem to have increased. Even the defence looked largely better too. If there is so much positivity about the current set up then why rush to alter it for and change one unproven manager (JP/LSL) for another (DF)?

Stick with the current pair until we are given a reason to believe they are not up to it. Why any sooner? We could appoint DF and find it's another Coyle situation for all anyone knows. If we keep JP for a few more games and it goes tits up then we still have the option of then appointing a replacement.

We don't like Dougie's sample size but a few games with JP will be enough to prove he's the man.

again it's sentiment based on 45 minutes against Bristol City.

and of course the players say all the right things, not one of them turned on Coyle, not one of them turned on Megson FFS.

What do you think they're going to say "JP is a twat!"

Literally any team could be sitting in the play off places at this stage in the season (mid October). It means NOTHING! Come on, Coyle had us 5th in the Premier League in December and look where we ended up! It turned out he didn't really know what he was doing despite his Burnley "success". Just because a manager has done ok at another club for a couple of months does not make him a automatic better choice than what we already ave in place.

JP/LSL know the club. This means a lot. They have an inside track. They can see where we were going wrong and what needs putting right. They know the players strengths and weaknesses. They know the teams abilities. They know the coaching points they need. They know our inconsistencies and where our bad points lie. They had the advantageous position of being on the inside when Coyle messed up royally and they seem to have plenty of ideas of how to put things right.

Dougie Freedman has done nothing to suggest that he would be a better man to take us forward and he certainly doesn't have the inside knowledge on our team. It would take a new manager weeks and months of experimenting and tinkering and potentially cocking up before he truely knew the team to the extent that JP and LSL do.

So imho if JP and LSL start getting results and good performances in the short term they should be allowed to continue. Why not? Is there a need to replace them immediately?
