Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has revealed Elias Kachunga is “back on the grass” as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.
The former Huddersfield man hasn’t featured since last month’s trip to Hartlepool in the Papa John’s Trophy.
“Kacha has been out on the grass for the first time today,” said Evatt. “He’s done some running, he’s come through fine. He’s progressing really well.”
The Bolton boss also confirmed George Johnston is available for Saturday’s trip to Oxford after recovering from illness.
However, Evatt says “there will be changes” from the side that beat Charlton on Tuesday night due to their busy fixture list.
He added: “George is back training today, he’s over his 24-hour sickness bug. Other than that we’re all good.
“We have to look at the opposition and their strengths and weaknesses. We also look games in advance to see which personnel will suit which game and which opposition.
“For instance, a home game against Wimbledon will be a completely different game to Burton away, so we’re looking at that.
“Obviously, we’ve got huge amounts of options and it’s down to me to come up with the conundrum to get it right really – that’s what I’m paid to do. But yeah, there will be changes on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Josh Sheehan and Lloyd Isgrove have been given time off as they continue their recoveries from long-term injuries.
“We’ve given Lloyd some time off at the moment. Obviously he’s nowhere near being fit yet – he probably won’t be available until April time,” said Evatt.
“He’s gone on his holiday somewhere because he’ll probably have to work throughout the summer with what he’s missed.
“Josh (Sheehan) is the same. He’s recovering really well. He’s on schedule, just having some time away.
“It can be really challenging – the same thing every day, the same four walls. He needs to freshen up his mind so we’ve given him some time off and he’ll come back and come into the later stage of his recovery.”
Evatt also gave an update on Andrew Tutte, who has been out of action since suffering a torn hamstring in a reserves game back in September.
“His hamstring is looking really good - that’s healed fine,” he added.
“But as is the case when you get long-term injuries, sometimes you pick up other niggles and bits and pieces and he’s had a bit of a calf issue that hasn’t healed properly, so I think he’s going for an epidural today.”
