I love KD but feel he isn't the man to fit into Owen Coyle's plans for the next season or two. I'd keep him this season purely because we'd only have Klasnic & Ngog without him.
But I understand what doffcocker is saying, £1.5m is a lot of money for a 34 year old who is out of contract in a few months.

I used to defend Kevin Davies, but since his wife ate his balls I can't stand the guy.
Get rid ASAP, and if someone is foolish enough to offer hard cash, bite their hand off.

I've always agreed with Natasha on the Davies' wife situation, despite not really understanding Twitter.
All I know is she's a bit of a wannabe and a fantasist and uses Twitter in a way that would suggest that in her head, she is an A list celebrity.
Did she once have a rant about Knight laughing at the end of the Fulham match? You know you're shit at your job when your wife has to do it for you!

The only pictures I've seen of his wife, she's got the fun bags covered up in loose fitting clothing and dresses. How can we be expected to appreciate her, and advocate the retention of her spouse at Bowton, without her giving us at least a hint of what those sweater puppies look like?

Can't see Kev featuring next season if he stays so I guess it would make sense to take the money. In the early part of this season he was playing regularly and we were predictable and vulnerable. Things have improved since he stopped getting picked regularly and it's forced OC to look at other options and systems which has been a good thing - even if we haven't quite got it right yet.
Time for the likes of Eaves and Oba to step up or p1ss off IMO.

Brilliantly put.
I don't understand our youth system. For years we've had these kind of players on the books that hang around until they're early to mid 20s, going backwards and forwards on loans to lower league clubs.
If Eaves and Odabeyi aren't good enough to even get a chance from the bench, baring in mind how weak our frontline has been, they aren't ever going to be good enough.

Can't see Davies uprooting to Sunderland for a few months even if we did accept the bid. His family are in the North West, and his charity in centered around Bolton, so I think he'd be happy to keep his fat wage and be a bit part player. At least he can come on when we're winning to try and keep the ball in the corner, although he was unsuccessful in doing this against Everton.

Coyle has told Sunderland to whistle. Davies is staying. I can only see him having a cameo role but you never know.

I'm in two minds about this. I'd like the money for selling him but where is the replacement? What happened to Eaves?

Eaves was sent on loan to get in some first team football but I haven't heard anything since.

Answering my own question: Davies's replacement is ..... Davies on an 18 month contract! WTF! That even beats the 4 year contract for Pratley in terms of stupidity.

Sunderland are still hoping they can sign Davies but honestly to offer 1.5 million for a nearly 36 year old player who is not even getting games, whose contract expires in summer - we were mad not to take it.
Maybe Coyle has offered him the new deal in the hope Sunderland will up their price to 2 million. We would be stupid to turn it down when you think about the rubbish money we have let some of our best players go for in the past.
We certainly would not pay 2 million to get a 35 year old who would never play. But that is effectively what we are doing.

Asked if the knock picked up by Wickham in Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Boro would play into Bolton’s hands, O’Neill said: “That is the point and it is always the same with these things.
“But you’d be hoping you wouldn’t have to pay over the odds for someone who is 34, has given really decent service to Bolton and is not playing regularly at the moment.
“We have made a bid and Bolton have rejected it, so we will see what happens next.
“We need to agree something with Bolton and, at the moment, we seem to be a bit apart.”
