The mystery of what was happening on Trinity Street in Bolton was solved in January 1967 when wooden hoardings which had surrounded the road bridge were taken down to allow people to see a new road bridge under construction.
A new concrete base had been put in place using pre-stressed concrete ‘girders’ each one three feet six inches deep for the centre span - three feet at the edges.
On the left you can see the British Rail sign for Trinity Street station. Holy Trinity Church in the background overlooks the on-going work.
