Good friend of mine is a Barnsley fan, he reckons Crag Davies will be heading to Bolton soon, seems to think it’s pretty certain. I have no idea how reliable this is, but him and his dad are quite involved in the club.

Craig Davies? Really? He's not young and he's not a midfielder. Many say he's not really a striker either. I'd be pretty underwhelmed - nay, disappointed if this is true.

My mate reckons its from a reliable source, but who knows.
Depending on the price, I don't think it would be a bad signing as such, he's looked a good player whenever i've seen him I thought he was a striker to be honest? But we do have more important positions to fill.
As we've said in another thread, we need a muamba like defensive midfielder rapidly.

He is a striker but not a great one. He scored against us and maybe that's what started the story? - after all we signed Eaves on the basis of one performance against us - or so it seems. But surely the club won't fritter the money away when we need to sort out our defensive performances? Tell me they're not that stupid.

QPR just signed Ben Haim who may have been able to help us... even if he has not played in awhile. There has to be someone we can bring in for defense that we can afford. There was no reason to lose a 5-4 game and leak that many goals. Saying that, I wish we had a new number one goaltender as well... Bogdan allows too many spills and parries for my liking.Lt. Iles just tweeted he is about to put a story on the BN on our new transfer target........it's a striker.
WANDERERS are set to steal a march on their Championship rivals to snap up Barnsley striker Craig Davies for a bargain fee.
Dougie Freedman is ready to exploit a buy-out clause in the Wales international’s contract at Oakwell and will open talks tomorrow (Friday).
Davies – also chased by Leicester City and Leeds United – would become the manager’s first permanent signing since arriving at the Reebok

NOT impressed. How much are we spending on him? Does this mean Sordell and/or Ngog are gone? Eaves to Bristol? SKD to retire? Iliev off to a club that appreciates him?
The few who have been calling out for a striker won't be impressed and the many who can see that our problem is defending even less so.

Is Craig Davies better than Sordell? I'd say not.
Freedman out.

Hard to tell. Haven't really seen Sordell have we?
Market value for Craig Davies on Transfermarkt is 750k euros compared to Sordell's 2.5 million euros so that tells a story.
If this is true, it gives out a message that the club still believe we can get promoted this season as Craig Davies is a bargain purchase geared to success at this level - so I doubt we'll see much change in system or many opportunities for youngsters this season.

He's a very good goalscorer at this level, watched him earlier in the season when barnsley embarrassed birmingham 5-0 (I think) and Davies score 4 of them in 19 minutes.
He also looked impressive at the reebok and I'm sure he'll bang them in for us, he's into double figures already playing for the bottom side.. He won't cut it in the prem but he could be that firepower we need for a charge to the play offs, now we just need some defenders!

Beggers (which we are these days) can't be choosers!
I'm guessing he's being looked at to play the Kevin Davies role.

OK - I've calmed down a bit. I can put aside those thoughts about actually needing defenders or signing him just because he's called Davies and consider the positives if this comes off at the right price.
A few journeyman strikers are currently doing well at a higher level currently and Dougie was instrumental in making it happen for the lad at Palace. It could happen for this lad.
We have created and missed more chances than anyone so we do need a finisher (although I was hoping Iliev might step up this year)
If it genuinely is a bargain basement deal, it shouldn't prevent us picking up a solid defender or two.

Please please get us what OC failed to do... a solid defense and make the Reebok a fortress again.wanderlust wrote:OK - I've calmed down a bit. Different style don't ya reckon Sluffy? Always thought Sordell was more of a direct replacement for SKD as he holds it up and links play really well. CDavies seems more of poacher type. We'll find out DFs intentions soon enough if the deal goes through.

It would be bloody stupid to have three players named Davies in side. Too confusing for most on here.
