bwfc1874 you need to open your mind.

Why are you so against us "going for it" when the worst that can happen is we lose the debt?

I know Natasha is joking but it's not a million miles away from what Ipswich Town did.

I used to work in the Accounts Dept of an independent hotel which was the only decent hotel in town - so we'd get football clubs staying there quite regularly.

Ipswich were in town, stayed a couple of nights, 20 bedrooms, food, drinks and room service - bill came to just short of £5k. It was my job to chase the money but I was repeatedly fobbed off. One day I got through to one of their Directors who told me they were going into Administration so wouldn't be paying the bill - and then said "that's business" and put the phone down on me.

In the end I think we got about 5p in the pound, they paid us about £250 for a £5k debt. Piss-take.

About 18 months later they were out of Administration and the cheeky bastards made a similar booking to the one they hadn't paid, 20-odd bedrooms plus food. And they wanted it on credit. My boss was on holiday so I accepted the booking but I put a hold on their account so Reception couldn't check them in.

When they arrived I refused to let them stay unless they paid in advance for everything. I wanted £6k upfront by bank transfer, no credit cards or cheques. I knew they wouldn't be able to find anywhere else at short notice so they ended up transferring the cash. Their Director went absolutely mental on the phone, but I had the last laugh by saying "that's business" and saying goodbye.

I got absolutely bollocked by various people at the hotel, but it was well worth it.

The current owner of Ipswich Town, Marcus Evans, is absolutely minted. He doesn't suffer fools and he is careful with his money but he is one of the bigger players in the Championship. You can bet McCarthy is on a tidy packet.

I think in all seriousness, its time for Eddie to step down and openly put the club up for sale to somebody who can afford it.

Thanks Eddie, but your just too poor...

Its not disgusting, we are a club that cannot compete.

if a company does not have the finance to support itself in its industry, it goes under. Finance has to either be gained or things get worse and worse before it goes pop.

Football is no different.

Its not a dig at Eddie, but in the world of inflated wages and transfer fees caused by billionaire owners flashing the cash, he is simply too poor now. The nicest thing he could do would be to get us on the market.

Some rich billionaire must be looking for a new toy...

How dare you!

Im seething, i trust the mods will step in. Laughing

No, id just rather have a club with an owner that can and will throw a cheque book at the manager than a club where we cannot afford to have any ambition whatsoever...

In all honesty- how much do you think someone would pay for BWFC as a going concern.
Bear in mind that Eddies generous loans aren't interest free. They bear interest at between 4%-5%. (see Burnden Leisure plc Accounts ) So they're not as gratuitous as you might imagine. Show me where else you can get that return - virtually risk free
If you can ,then I'll have some of it.

You should be careful what you wish for, just look at Blackburn.

Apparently venkys were thinking about us before they bought rovers! Thank Christ we dodged that bullet.

I understand this, but Eddie does not have any other assets, the only assets he has is a small airline company that flies to the IOM from provincial UK airports and a manufacturing company making thermostats, its not a lot - not really going to be worth over 100 million quid.

So, should the shit ever hit the fan with Eddie, his assets will be seized and the only thing of any real worth (even though its £120-odd million in debt) is his football club.

Do you really think his debtors would give a shit that it was a football club - no, we would be asset stripped and probably end up getting would-up.

what terrifies me more, is what if Eddie dies, his family get all his assets - with the majority (if not all) of his wealth tied up in BL plc his family will see fuck all of it. I hope his family are in to football, because if they Dont give a shit, we will again be asset stripped so they can play with their money.

I seem to remember years ago PG and BSA visiting Monte Carlo and the Gulf touting the club to possible investors. I'm sure this still goes on, and of course Eddie will have business contacts in Hong Kong.. I suppose `You can take a horse to water` is appropriate. I can remember a former chairman of our club saying to me 20 years ago `Football clubs are not a good investment` Foreign investors only seem interested in "Big city clubs" so we are stuck with what we've got and probably would have gone tits up years ago without Eddie.
