You have to wonder about football managers ..... It's beyond me most of the time how they come to decisions. What seems to make sense to the average fan takes the so-called professionals weeks or months or never to implement.

We see the team play once a week, the manger sees them every day. Do you not think the manager may have a better idea than the 'average football fan'?

Not for a minute.

Football management is a merry-go-round...difficult to get on while it's moving but once you're on you can stay as long as you want.

Failed managers just keep getting jobs. Few clubs, particularly the higher you get, are prepared to risk managers with no experience...they'd rather employ managers with experience of failure.

A lot of fans will know better than Dougie, they just don't happen to have the credentials to get on the merry-go-round.

So you think that the average fan who never interacts with the players, never had a training session with them and sees them from a stand for 90 minutes a week, has a better idea than a team of professional coaches who spend every day training them?

lol!

Not in every case, but certainly in the case of recent Bolton managers.

It's a well known fact that training has very little to do with what happens on match day. George Best was an awful trainer but was the best player on the pitch every Saturday.

Training keeps you fit, it rarely makes you a better player. Read Glenn Hoddle's autobiography if you don't believe me.

Having said that, Hoddle probably wouldn't have got in this Bolton team for being too lightweight.

Never said it made you a better player, the point is that by taking training every day the manager sees far more about players than the 'average fan' ever would.

The fans see what matters - how these players perform on the pitch on matchday.

Someone could be like Messi on the training pitch, but if he can't do it on matchday it's pointless.

I didnt agree with dougies first words on eagles. It was something like he wants to build the team around him because hes a quality player. He also said he cant tell chris that because his ego is big enough already.

By saying that to the papers its obviously going to get back to him. He hasnt been the player we saw in the first half of the season and if its true what dougie said about his ego then that statement might have made him think he is much much better than he actually is.

Im not for one second saying hes a bad player because on his day he can rip apart teams in this league but he could just need a break to knock him a peg or two down. Then when he comes back into the team he may look like the player we saw in the first half of the season.

Fair point about not seeing every day training etc ..... there's some validity to that.
However that does not mean the people in charge know much of anything other than having a football coaching license.
I have been watching football since before Doogie was born. IMO I know what a footballer looks like....but that is just my opinion.....and Doogie has his opinion which he is paid for. Being paid does not mean he knows more than us. When I say us I don't mean 18 year old hooligans but us fans who follow football with some insight and sense.
