Bolton Wanderers have announced that Kevin Davies will not be offered a new contract at the club.

The striker joined Bolton in the summer of 2003 on a free transfer from Southampton. Manager Dougie Freedman said: “Kevin Davies is and always will be a Wanderers legend.

“I want to be fair to him as regards his future, as he deserves it. This decision means that he is now free to sort himself out with a new club in plenty of time for next season.

“Being the type of man Kevin is, we sat down and had a chat about the future. He
wants to carry on playing, and playing regularly. He has that desire to continue and this is the best move for him.

“I would like to thank him for his complete support and utter professionalism since I arrived.

“He never gives anything less than 100 percent in training, or when called on for first team duties.

“He will continue to be available for selection for the remaining games of the season.”

In football you have to be ruthless, we all know SKD's best playing days are behind him, so its probably the best decision for the club.

Now i know why Mrs Davies wasn't to happy with her comments the other day.

This is good news and yet another reason to believe that Dougie might actually know what he is doing.

Unfortunate if the first SKD heard about it was on his birthday but he's a big boy now.

I can't believe the hard on some people have for him. Thanks for everything Kev, you've given your all and been well recompensed for it. I'm sure he'll get his testimonial and I'm sure everyone will realise this is in the best interests of all parties, except maybe his wife.

I think Fat Sam will sign Super kev as a replacement for Andy Carroll at Wet Spam. Carroll is only on loan at the moment and is probably too expensive to sign permanently.

It's the right time imo.

He's been a great player for us but it's time to move on.

Hopefully he has a goal or two left in him this season though.

And good luck to him where ever he ends up next season.
