If that's the case and he doesn't get one it's a disgrace.

I'd be amazed if he didn't get one.

Kevin Davies wrote:"I was shocked at the time and it's not quite sunk in yet, but these things happen. This is home and I thought I'd be at this club until I retired and maybe start coaching and doing that sort of thing afterwards, but that's not going to be.

"There's the possibility of going out on loan in the next couple of days but, if not, I'll wait until the end of the season and see what happens next. I've been told I'm not entitled to a testimonial. It would have been nice to have one as a thank you for what I've done.

"Right now it's difficult for me to take but I need to keep my head up. It's going to be hard to try to keep involved, but I just have to try my best.

"But I'm a big, strong man and I can only hold my head up high and see where the future takes me. Nothing lasts forever and the manager has made the decision for the club."

He'll get back to his best for his new club knowing our luck.

I hope he retires as I would hate to see him in another teams colours

Shocked, really? - To be honest as much as he has been a good player for the club he has been lucky to have been here for the past 2/3 seasons since his form dropped dramatically.

As for this testimonial business, it's all bollocks, they are over hyped friendlies - a simple lap of honor on the last home game of the season is enough IMO.

I think he has earned a testimonial but I have to say that I would have been REALLY surprised if we had renewed his contract at the end of the season.

As much as I appreciate the service Kevin has given to the club, to tell a 36 year old footballer that he has no future as a player at this club can't be that much of a shock. No disrespect intended, but he really thought he would play until he decided to call it a day?

I also take some amount of umbrage at the things he has said in this interview. Yes, a testimonial would be nice - but weren't you well paid for the duration of your time with Bolton? Where's the dignity? He shouldn't have mentioned that at all. "It's going to be hard to try to keep involved..." Not so hard to collect your paycheck though, I imagine. A professional footballer should not be saying drivel such as this. This doesn't sound like the player who has dislocated digits and just had them popped back in, to be able to continue playing. This sounds like it was written for him by Emma. Man up, Kev - this is a part of life for every footballer.

You're right they are just over-hyped friendlies, but it's not about the competitive side of the game I think it's a sign of respect to a player who has contributed a lot to the club, a proper send off for him.

The money would almost certainly be donated to his charity Kids of Bolton, there's no downside to doing it.

Why though, they are painful to watch. Jussi's was the last one I went to and seeing amir khan and paddy mcguiness play football was bloody painful and the game was piss poor aswell.

Why is a simple a simple walk round the pitch at our last home game not enough?

After 10 years of service I think he deserves more than a walk around the pitch,

He has taken thousands of pounds out of the club since he has been here for kicking (mainly heading) a ball around, I wouldn't moan too much if I worked somewhere for under 10 years and that was all I got personally.

Great news - what I was hoping to hear. A great servant to the club and deserves a good send off. But like others have said, he can't be a shock really, he's on a very good salary no doubt and age is against him. I would have liked him to retire and help behind the scenes...

Some of you need to get a grip. He's an average footballer who put a bit of effort in and got vastly more cash than he deserved.

Some of you make out he was doing this for free just because he loved Bolton.

Answer me this, in the last three years how many important goals has he scored?

This, this, this!

The Kevin Davies love-in has got hideous at times. I spoke to a guy in the pub not long ago that openly admitted to thinking he was "shit", but wanting him in the team regardless because of "all that he's done for us". For a lot of people it's about fitting him in by any justification thinkable, even if it means younger, fresher and frankly better options miss out. Personally, I want the best eleven players picked every week, irrespective of how good they were five years ago. I'm old-fashioned like that.

As for a testimonial, I've never grown attached enough to a player to want to attend one. What are they like? Fun? Important?

The 'hard on' people have for him is obvious, he was a key component of one of the most successful periods in our recent history, he's never had a bad word to say about the club or the fans and gave his all in every game, he was unbeatable in the air and was the main reason top teams hated playing against us, he was a nightmare for center backs.

He flew into challenges, worked himself into the ground, never rolled around on the floor feigning injury and clearly cared about the club, how many other players can we say that about now?

No right minded person would say put him in the team because of what he's done before, the times right for him to go. But he deserves to be praised and to get a testimonial as a sign of respect for his contribution.

Spot on comments 1874. Whilst I thought his time was up a couple of seasons ago, he had an England call when his star was falling, never the less his contribution has been immense for the Club.
Personally he has been on overtime for the team but never the less my heart feels a great loss on this sad day. That is the esteem I hold for Kevin Davies and over the 9 or 10 years he has played for the Club he has been peerless!
Shame on you fans who resort to lowering yourself to petty comments, certainly his dignity will tower much higher than yours!!
Super Kevin Davies thanks for the memories, true BWFC LEGEND.

He must be bloody hard up of after 15 or so years on a bloody good WEEKLY wage (remember he was once one of Britain’s top transfer deals when he went to Blackburn long before he joined Bolton).

Makes you laugh really!

I wish I were as poor as him.

Tbh I can only assume he wants a testimonial to raise money for his charity - anything else would be pure greed.

Can't get over how many people out there are feeling sorry for him - he's a multimillionaire ffs!

I agree that he is a Bolton Legend - but I think he let his emotions get the better of him in the interview above. League football is a business - as the price of admission will attest. If respect and sentiment were the criteria for selection, we could call up Tony Kelly and David Lee in much the same way. I appreciate the job SKD has done for us for so long, but there comes a time when you heed a certain call. Thanks for the memories and for those yet to come if he sees out the remainder of his contract and "keeps involved". It is going to feel weird to see a Bolton teamsheet without Super Kev's name on it, but I already know the feeling in my relatively short time following Bolton - seeing the likes of Jay Jay, Jussi and Bibi leave with no fanfare whatsoever. Que sera, sera.

Feel sorry for him?

I certainly don't feel sorry for him.

And i would have let him go last year personally, doesn't stop me thinking he's a terrific servant to this club and deserves a bit of respect.
