JJ, have you considered getting a job as an advisor with Travelbag?
Good story, but would you not have done better with a cheap B & B ?

You owe me 5 minutes of my life Jayjay.
I can't help but think I've seen this exact scenario in some low budget British film....

Just to round off the story...
So we set off back the way we came. We were supposed to head towards a small town and then take an A road to the motorway and come down the A1 (the wrong side of the country)... anyway, I think we must have taken a wrong turn at some point as we never reached the town...
We ended up on yet another bleak hill. Snow getting thicker but still not sicking properly. The use of window wipers becoming futile. Visibility was getting very low and it was dangerous to continue. We had to stop. We had not seen a car in a good hour save one 4x4 coming the other way. There were no farmers to ask for advice and it didn't seem a good idea to go trudging looking for the military firing range or base we had seen...
We could not realistically pitch our tent again. So we holed up in the cars and ate hotdogs and crisps hoping the snow would pass. It just got worse, and soon when the visibility got better we found that the road was now impassable due to the now sticking snow. We just had to wait or risk driving off the edge of a cliff...
It seems like nothing now - but I suppose this is how real life emergencies start. Actually stuck out in the snow on top of a lonely hill with nobody around. I don't know where the time went but it started to grow dark sooner than we expected. I think we resigned ourselves to another night in the dales - this time in our cars...
Then a helicopter started bombing us from above... (not really)
It was about 11pm and none of us were getting any real sleep. Then 2 massive cars full of men came over the hill- they had big search lights on them and it was like something out of an army film - or my big fat gypsy wedding (not far from appleby we were). It was a bit nerve jangling when two blokes jumped out of the first car and came over. What do you do - attempt to drive off, open your window? Do they want a chat?
It turned out we were not supposed to be parked there overnight and after explaining our predicament they helped to get us off the hills. Tuns out we were only about 4 miles from actual civilisation...
The End.
Had to wrap it up cos I got to go out!

When you go Camping outdoors, you must always be prepared.
The first things on your list must be, a Compass, a reliable Map and a Whistle, otherwise you're doomed to fail.
