Zodiac is based on a true story. With modern technology and advances in scientific investigation he wouldn't have escaped detection nowadays. The film is worth watching though. It's seen through the eyes of an investigative journalist.

Son of Sam, an old seventies film about the Boston Strangler is pretty decent.

Close LPP, but Son of Sam and Albert DeSalvo ( The Boston Strangler ) were two different serial killers. DeSalvo committed his crimes in Boston and Son of Sam in New York. Congrats on your thousand btw.

My old memory lets me down. In fact there are TWO seventies films, one is called Son Of Sam and the other is called The Strangler. They're both based on fact and I saw them yonks ago. The better of the two is the Strangler which I mistakenly called Son of Sam. I had never heard of the guy the first time I saw it (somewhere around 1981 or 1982) because until I was about thirteen our parents didn't let us watch the late night news as they felt it would dispirit us too much. Newsround with John Craven was all I saw until I was well into High School and the only newspaper we saw in our house was The Guardian. I know, you don't need to say it.Reebok Trotter wrote:luckyPeterpiper wrote:Son of Sam, an old seventies film about the Boston Strangler is pretty decent.

Tony Curtis played Albert DeSalvo in the film, The Boston Strangler. I read the book, Son of Sam, about David Horowitz but I have never seen the film. Horowitz is the only Jewish serial killer I can ever think of.

I only watch films based on true events, any recommendations?
There's so many!
You like Richard the Lion Heart, so I think you should like The Lion in Winter.
I also liked A Man for all Seasons but you may not.
Zulu is a cracking film if you've never seen it.
Rescue Dawn is the true story of Dieter Dengler the only person to escape from the Vietnamese during the war.
The Killing Fields is similarly another cracking film.
Papillon is another along the same lines.
Mr Nice is a film about Howard Marks the drugs king.
Also Touching the Void is about a climber who cheated certain death.
Hope you like these few to be getting on with!

The Killing Fields is a brilliant film. Trying to teach a Cambodian to learn a Dutch accent is the stuff of nightmares.

I watched that last night, I can't believe they didn't find the killer in the end.
It's a great film - they knew who did it but couldn't get enough evidence to convict.
It wasn't him, they have done modern day DNA testing on the letters and it was negative.

Didn't it say at the end of the film that he had died by the time they had enough evidence to convict him?
