Does anyone still make their own.

Peel their potatoes and use a chip pan.

It must be at least 15yrs+ since I had home made chips.

What with all this healthy eating.

Still peel our own but don't have a chip pan. The missus has this new fangled gadget by Delia Smith. It' s not a deep fat fryer. You only use a tablespoon of sunflower oil and it's much healthier.

You can't beat proper chips. The oven ready and frozen chips are bloody tasteless.

I have just had a look and it's not Delia Smiths. It's a Tefal Actifry. You just peel your spuds and wash them and then dry them off with kitchen roll. They must be dry when you put them in the ActiFry. Just add a tablespoon of Sunflower oil and set it to however you like your chips. It's an expensive bit of kit but it's worth it from a health point of view. It also has a lid and you don't get the smell in the kitchen and all the mess that you have with a chip pan.

I'd recommend it if you like your chips!

I make proper chips once a week. Peel the potatoes, old fashioned chip pan, lots of oil. Magnificent.

When Dougie gets the sack you're all invited round for a plate of home cooked chips.

Thanks RT.

I was tempted until I saw the price and some rather mixed reviews on Amazon.

I live just 400 yards from our local chippie- so when we need chips I just go and buy them.
Saves a lot of messing around- and chip pan fires as well.

I don't stir fry frozen chips. Very Happy

It's just the same as a chip pan really. You've to remember to dry your chips before you put them in the hot oil though.

You'll only make that mistake once.

A quick tip which Magoo will verify. If you are using a chip pan always make sure the oil is boiling hot before you put your chips in.

It is an expensive piece of kit but it's not just for chips. It's also excellent for roasting spuds as well. Some people even do curries in it but I have a slow cooker for curries.

Another little cracking bit of culinary kit is a portable Halogen oven. Great for cooking chickens. The fat is gathered in the bottom and it's dead easy to clean as well.
