Cardiff City striker Joe Mason has joined Bolton on loan until 5 January, after having a move to the Championship side called off earlier this month.

Bolton announced on 11 November that they had signed Mason on a temporary basis, only for the Welsh club to have a change of heart a day later.

However, a deal has now been completed for the 22-year-old to link up with Dougie Freedman's side.

The former Plymouth man has scored 18 goals during his time at Cardiff.

But he has made only two appearances for the Bluebirds this term, both of them in the Capital One Cup.

He joins another Cardiff player, Kevin McNaughton, at the Reebok Stadium.

Strange that a player would want to come to Bolton to sit on the bench - he's never going to get a game the way Freedman plays.

Not strange that a Bolton manager would sign a bench-warmer though. When I used to play "The Double" on the Commodore 64 I had a rule: only sign players that improve your first 11.

It's clear Dougie never played "The Double".

That's nonsense though, you need squad players especially with this many fixtures. Don't know a lot about him but he's a decnt age and another we could sign if he does okay, he won't get anywhere near Cardiff's first team at the moment.

You only get so many loans, don't you understand we should use the system to improve the TEAM not the squad?

Clearly the manager thinks Beckfords doing a good enough job up front but we need cover in case of an injury, the logics pretty obvious. He's a stop gap until January when we can re assess the situation, by which time C Davies may have got fit or N'gog could be on the move.

Clears the way for Cdavies to go to Burnley to get fit.

Last time I looked Cardiff were in a league above us and had a much bigger fan base so unfortunately at the moment picking up premier league reserves looks like the only real option.

I'd love to see us buy Wells from Bradford in January

Agreed Manny, surely that's a joke Bryan?! You think we're too good to sign a premier leagues sides reserves? You need to get real I'm afraid.

Would also love to see us sign Nahki Wells, but he's had a £3 million price rag put on him, Im not sure we could afford £300,000 at the moment.

I know nowt about the lad but I wonder what anybody can do for us in 6 weeks.

We still have Cdavies and Eaves plus others who could use a chance  IMO.

From what I've seen of him, Mason would walk into our team.

Mason and beckford up front in form would be a deadly partnership in this league.

He wasn't even a regular starter for Cardiff last season, I hope he does well but I just don't see him producing anything special

He has a bit of class about him when I've seen him and I'm struggling to understand why he's out of favour unless he's gone downhill rapidly.
