Having watched the news tonight I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed that we have to be subjected to a lengthy trial which gives the culprits more airtime to express their grievances publicly.
In any other country the authorities would have used snipers and shot the pair stone dead without the need for a lengthy trial.
The Met firearms unit fired eight rounds and only wounded both murderers. It's no wonder fanatics see us as a soft touch.
If ever a shoot to kill policy should have been authorised then it's this terrible event. All we are doing is making lawyers even richer.

I can't get my head round the fact that they've both pleaded not guilty to murder. I must be missing something?

They are getting international coverage for their cause, no doubt many in other country's will see them as heros.

Something is grossly wrong when we all know they killed Lee Rigby in public - cutting off his head - the CCTV alone proves that - yet we have to go through this charade of a trial giving them the publicity they so crave, just to convict them.

Something is utterly wrong here.

That was my point. Two head shots would have put paid to this charade and sent out out a message saying ' Don't fcuk with the police.'

Yes but the way things go here the cops  probably would be up on a murder charge like the marine.

A lot of this 'lets be seen to be fair to our ethnic minoities' approach started with the Blair's government, when we were all branded racists, when asking for sensible debates on the rise of such unrestrained rights for whatever religions and cults pushed for them. I believe we are now seeing the product of such weak decision making, which, unfortunately has been supported by the European Parliament, and the Human Rights Bill. I was disgusted by the BBC recently, who were happy to use the full and correct pronunciation of the names of those two murderouss bastards now spouting their shit in the full glare the media, who then referred to Lee Rigby, on two occassions, merely as 'Rigby'. Bloody disgraceful.

It's not murder jury are told, it's treason or manslaughter. And they even paid to park FFS!
What morals some folk must have to defend the indefensible!!

It's not a question of morals and whilst it might be unpalatable to see people like this afforded professional legal representation, I wouldn't want it any other way.

We have a judicial system in this country which is the envy of the world because it guarantees anybody accused of a serious offence the right to the best possible defence available.

Yes, we all know they did it and they will be found guilty and go to prison for life, but if you start imposing limits on who should be entitled to a robust defence, you are entering dangerous territory.

Summary conviction without due process is how you wind up with dictators eliminating the competition and locking up anybody who doesn't subscribe to their view.

QC Gottlieb came out with a crock of shit in defence of the vermin, which is his job, however, the jury are unlikely to pay attention to any of his moral musings.

The evidence is pretty cut and dried and I see no other result than life imprisonment with a full life tariff. Anything else just wouldn't be justice.

As stated already - Its the fuckin lawywers who NEVER lose and  whose interests are served even more handsomely the longer they can drag it out, and other cases like it (Abu kafuckintada, prosecution of Marines in combat situations etc.) paid for by the idiot tax-payers, you and me - Never forget that the house of commons is FULL of the the bastards and the more laws they can dream up to pin us further and further down, the better it is for them and their chosen profession. The lawyers and legal profession have made a lovely living off fools like us by dreaming up every possible denial of common sense in this country for too long, aided by their mates in Westminster who are the most unrepresentative bunch of twats I can think of. Have a think - the coppers are quick enough to shoot a drug dealer (Mark Duggan) dead with no hesitation - for drug dealer read gangster tax dodger - but when it comes to a case of such blatent public murder of one of our 'own' then its shoot him in the leg time, don't kill him! If that bastard wants to be at 'war' (sic) he should be prepared for the consequences of war. I would have shot both the bastards dead there and then.

I agree, and it would have been quite justifiable seeing as they came at you wielding a machete and a gun. If the pair of them had pulled a stunt like that in New York they would have died of lead poisoning within seconds of the police arriving on the scene.

The defence lawyer, David Gottlieb is an extremely modest man. This is how he describes himself:

I defend ordinary people against the State or other powerful organisations. Today, this is called "Human Rights Law” but I see it as applying the same principles of British law which have always guided good lawyers.

I am a trial advocate. I cut my teeth as a young barrister defending people at risk of going to prison for the first time. I still take such cases when my workload allows.

I have been praised by the most senior judges in official Law Reports for my legal arguments. Many of my appeal cases have been reported, and have changed the law for the better.

I also advise in commercial cases when unreasonable opponents won’t settle. I do this by letting them know what my cross-examination and legal arguments will be.

Recent contested cases include: (i) H.E., a young man cleared of terrorism by an Old Bailey jury, (ii) N.J.. a foreign woman cleared by a jury of falsely accusing her former husband of rape in order to obtain leave to stay in this country, (iii) P.J. Proby, the singer and songwriter, who wrote a song about me during his trial and was acquitted when the prosecution's case collapsed after my cross-examination, (iv) a successful appeal on a point of law overturning a conviction for downloading pornography from the internet leading to a retrial and (v) the case of the first man to be stripped of his British citizenship at the Special Immigration and Appeals Commission (SIAC) in front of Mr Justice Mitting.(leading Faisal Saifee from my Chambers)

I also recently represented Salma Kabal, 23, from Birmingham. She described me to the newspapers as “inspirational”. She was charged with failing to disclose her husband was a terrorist to the police. She was tried on her own before Mr Justice Henriques and a jury. She was triumphantly acquitted and most of her jurors were in tears after their verdict. Of the twelve people charged in Operation Pitsford ("the Birmingham terror cell case"), Salma Kabal was the only person to be found Not Guilty.

David Gottlieb clearly specialises in terrorism cases and clearly makes a damn good living out of the legal aid system.
