I've tried to believe in God, but it's so complex, if you just look at the bad things that happen, World Wide, Wars, Famine, Drought and Natural disasters.

Then on a more personal level, Illness, Death and Misfortune.

Personally, i think most of us in this Country are provided with the Basic tools to exist.

Climate, Education, and Organization to cope, with our Lot.

I had a mate who had a heart attack but very few people knew about it and therefore few prayers were said. He died.
Top notch statistical evidence clearly proving that prayer works.
Good one. I presume that is a joke.
Anecdotal evidence is great isn't it.
It reminds me of the Homoeopathy man who claimed that he didn't like scientific tests of Homoeopathy because "it never works"!
Millions of people prayed when Diana crashed and she didn't survive.
My brother cracked his head open and had part of his brain removed. Coma for over a week. We didn't pray. He lived. Proof that prayer does not work by your logic.
Damn! My entire hypothesis founders on equally strong empirical evidence.
The Nobel Prize will have to wait for a few more years.

for me, I'm not arrogant enough to say, "I'm certain," about the cosmos etc etc i just go with the evidence thats there.

If evidence of a divine creator is available to me i'd love to explore it, but right now it isn't. So for the time being i'll side with the science.
Ok then. Prior to the Big Bang we know that subatomic particles and quarks existed. What force caused their creation from nothing?

I don't know mate, but I'm assuming you do, so please tell me and highlight the evidence for me and i'd be delighted to explore it.

Something had to start this whole process, the universe didn't suddenly create itself.

Agreed, I'm not arrogant enough to say i know what that is, because i simply don't. If you do, please direct me to the evidence and i'll check it out.

Science hasn't finished discovering how the world was created - in fact I believe its only scatched the surface, adn we are learning more and more each day, all thanks to distant stars, galaxies, supernova's, etc etc etc. Only recently they have discovered a new planet in a new solar system which could eveolve into a planet very similar to ours.

If anyone had seen the Science programme "Solar" recently on BBC2 then you would know that a planet, similar size to Mars, crashed into Earth millions of years ago and the debris from that impact created our present moon which helps keeps the balance on the planet - it acts as a counterweight to the gravitational pull of the Sun. Plus many other facts like that...

The answer to what created the universe is simply beyond the limits of human knowledge and understanding.

People saying "but what created the big bang" and so on, it's simple, we will never know.

Folk can have an opinion on the subject but it is beyond us all.

You're as likely to find a plausible explanation in The Lord of the Rings as you are in the Bible. They're all stories written hundreds of million years after the event.

Did you know that in the original first print there was a dedication to the writers family for being so understanding whilst writing the fiction!!!

well that would be cherrypicking wouldn't it.

again i don't claim that God isn't real, i just say it's very unlikely, considering there is absolutely no evidence. But I'm not arrogant enough to completely rule it out.

It's the religious who have that mindset of I'm right you're wrong. My attitude is I might be right, but please provide me with some evidence that shows i might be wrong.

If it's in print it must be true - publishers won't risk being sued.

It's a shame you can't put your wumming aside for one minute and have a proper debate, you claim to be religious but just admit it's another string to the bow of the Whittam Wum.

I go to church, I believe in God, I do charity work. I don't need to justify it to you though Hipster.

charity work has got nothing to do with religion.

Sorry if you genuinely believe in "god" (i assume the christian one) but your comments on this thread were extremely glib so i assumed you were taking the piss.

I do my charity work for the church, so it has everything to do with religion. I help young people through tough times and mentor them to go on to make the best of their lives. Could you imagine anyone better than me to shape the next generation?

For the record I believe in God and go to church but I don't agree with everything the church says and does, far from it.
