Should Buying Sex Be Legal?

A good friend of mine was caught kerb crawling on Friday night. He's 34, single, and has a stressful job with little time for socialising, so decided he wanted some female company in the back of his Saab for 5 minutes.

He agreed a fee for sex (£50) and paid the woman who then revealed herself as an undercover policewoman.

He's basically got to go to court and risks losing his job and the respect of his colleagues, not to mention family and friends.

How do you feel about paying for sex? Don't you think that in 2014 it should be perfectly legal for a man or woman to go out and buy sexual intercourse - let's face it, there are few other things money can't buy these days.

Is there a stigma to buying sex anymore like perhaps there was 20 years ago? If your brother or best friend told you he'd just had a hand job from Backstreet Brenda would you think less of him?

Maybe you've paid for sex at some point in your life? Do you feel ashamed?

Nice idea SK, but he's working 70 hours a week. What with work and driving up and down streets, he just doesn't have the time.

I can't think of anything more uncomfortable than paying for sex and hope I never reach those levels of desperation.

That said, the people that say prostitution is wrong tend to be the conservative types that believe in no sex before marriage and all that nonsense. I'm surprised you're not staunchly against it Natasha.

I follow the bible as best I can, and I personally have been a virgin for over 10 years and won't have sex again until I get married.

To bee fair I lived just outside sin-city (aka Amsterdam) and still have an apartment over there which I visit frequently.

I NEVER Paid for sex and honesty don't understand as to why people do (as it does happen the other way when women hire gigolos).

Yet the main red-light district (De Wallen) was always full of groups of men looking and wanting - I only know as its the quickest route from The Dam tram stop to Nieuwmarkt (for decent Chinese restaurants and Café de Cuba).

Again I just don't see the interest of it, or is that because I just see it as an everyday thing that is legal and as such doesn't actually bother me or surprise me?
