Wanderers Under-21s missed out on a Lancashire FA Senior Cup final showdown with neighbours Bury after losing 2-1 at Wigan Athletic today.
The Shakers made it through to the final with a 2-1 win at Burnley this week and Jamie Fullarton's team went into the last-four clash favourites to join them after dumping holders Manchester United out on penalties in the quarter-final.
But it was the Latics who took the lead at Robin Park from the penalty spot through Tim Chow on 24 minutes.
They doubled the advantage, again from the spot, through Ryan Jennings in the final minute and young defender Hayden White was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card giving away the penalty for a foul on Jennings.
Aaron Knight pulled a goal back soon after but the Whites could not find an equaliser to take the tie to a shoot-out.
