Magoo, we've had Karly and BTID on the case and this is what they've found as to why your thread as 'split' into two (nothing we've done at our end) -
There is a limit of 990 posts, once reached the thread locked and splitted.
One way to combat this would be to have 2 threads such as Dinner - Part 1, Dinner - Part 2 for example.
I have left both parts of the thread stickied and renamed for the time being and have locked Part 1 so that no one else starts posting in it by mistake.
Maybe the 2nd thread should be Tea - the proper name for the evening meal
Doesn't explain The Racing Thread though - (1054 replies).
My guess would be it will 'split' soon when it get's to a certain number.
What I mean is that the Dinner thread didn't split when it reached 990 and start the second thread at 1 - perhaps it gets up to say 1090 then splits off the first 990 and the new thread then already is nicely established with 100 posts.
Hope this explains what happened to your thread.
Here's to the next 990 posts on here though!

He obviously had the heat too high.
That's what generally causes thing to split .......
(Cooking related humour on the "Tea" thread - see what I done there?)

Some people have already been toying with the idea of giving the thread it's proper name "Tea"!Breadman wrote:He obviously had the heat too high.

I always remember Paddy Kielty talking about when he first moved to London and people started inviting him round for "Supper."
He said "I couldn't understand why people would want me to go round to their place in my pyjamas and eat a bowl of Cocoa Pops....."
Shandy-drinking, Southern ponces......
