One of the issues here is that a very high percentage of these kids are in Council care. That would indicate that they come from more difficult backgrounds with little or no natural family support- they've been removed from problematic parents for some reason.
But more importantly- they're in Council care and therefore need much better supervision. These kids are innocent victims of difficult circumstances and because of the weak and lackadaisical care provided by council workers they can more easily fall prey to these criminals.
Councils need to look at the level of funding and protection that these kids need. I bet its none of your kids that fall victim as you'll exercise sufficient control and authority over your kids so that ,for the main part, you know what they're up to. Local Councils are in loco parentis with these vulnerable kids and so they need to find ways of exercising better vigilance and control.
I'm not suggesting that Councils are criminally negligent in allowing kids fall prey to these evil men- but I think they need to take a long close look at themselves to see if they can avoid some of these tragic events occurring

I can't believe how hard-faced that Shaun Wright bloke's being.

Every man and his dog is calling for his resignation from his role as PCC, including the Labour Party, but he's happy to try and weather the storm and dig his heels in because he knows he can only be ousted if he is found guilty of committing a criminal offence whilst in office.

By resigning from the Labour Party, he's boxed them off and knows he's untouchable.

That guy is clearly a very "political animal", in the sense that he's prepared to do whatever it takes to further his own career but is obviously too thick to realise he's finished.

I couldn't be that hard-faced.

Agreed, Im just watching last nights news and couldn't believe his attitude. He's probably hoping for a nice fat pay cheque rather than having to resign.

I think it was a financially motivated crime but that the perpetrators used a racial justification inasmuch that that the young white girls were perceived as weak minded slappers to be used.

As far as public services are concerned I think that it's a mixture of diffusion of responsibility and an imbalanced perspective of political sensitivity.
