WANDERERS should get a timely weekend boost with the news that Mark Davies and Dean Moxey are on course to feature against Sheffield Wednesday.
Both players have returned to first-team training this week, although Kevin McNaughton remains a doubt with a hamstring injury.
Davies has been out since the summer with a fractured toe, and while the thought of his return is bound to stir up excitement among the Whites fans, there are a few who will only celebrate the midfielder’s comeback when they see it.
Dougie Freedman had expected the 26-year-old to play in two previous games this season, only to find himself explaining his absence after the final whistle.
However, the fact that the club released pictures of Davies training on Monday is a good sign that all is well.
Moxey has been missing since the first game of the season at Watford when he picked up a foot injury.
He came back to full training before the Leeds United game but then suffered exactly the same injury in a training ground kickabout.
The full-back could slot straight in on the left side, which would leave Tim Ream to resume his partnership with Matt Mills in the middle.
The pair have not featured alongside each other since the opening day but David Wheater’s back injury means there will be a change at centre half from the side beaten 1-0 at Elland Road.
Freedman could certainly use a few fresh faces in his side after five winless games in the Championship so far.
The loan window opened yesterday but it is unlikely the Whites boss will be able to bring in one of two targets before the weekend.
Meanwhile, Chung-Yong Lee’s condition will also be assessed today after he flew back from international duty in two friendlies.
The midfielder played 90 minutes for South Korea on Monday night in a 1-0 defeat against Uruguay and another 88 minutes on Friday in a 3-1 win over Venezuela.
