About a year ago I asked the question on here about 'Should we get involved in Syria' and iirc nobody including myself did. Parliment voted the same way shortly afterwards too.

Well things have changed and we all have heard of ISIS now called IS.

Looks as though we will be bombing them soon to.

Probably not in Syria just now anyway but Iraq looks ok from a international legal point of view.

Is this a good thing?

Seems good at first sight but will this make more trouble for us at home with our own muslim extremists?

Also what if one of our planes was shot down and the pilot captured?

Should we just let them get on with things and stay out of it?

What do you think?

I'm all for us destroying the IS. They can't carry on taking hostages and savaging them and getting away with it.

Tough one.

I think we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

If we are going to attack them, I reckon it needs to be with overwhelming force in an attempt to completely obliterate them quickly and this would need troops on the ground to ensure success.

However, the consensus (quite understandably) seems to be that we don't want to involve any of our boys and girls on the ground.

My big fear is that by doing half a job and not completely wiping them out, we'll just make it worse and their recruiting machine will go into overdrive and things will drag on for years.

We need the moderate Arab states to step up and get involved and there needs to be universal condemnation of IS in every mosque in the world, irrespective of which branch of Islam is being preached.

That's the only way to stop these kids being radicalized, I reckon.

Bomb them off the face of the planet. They don't deserve to be recognised as humans.

The case isn't whether these scummy murdering muslim filth should be bombed but who should be doing it.

The Iraqi central government is coordinating all this, we aren't just going off our own back here.

The thing is Saudi Arabia and Turkey (both muslim neighbours) are both tooled up with the military hardware to help more than 6 RAF Tornado's will.

The last century we fought against the Evil of Fascism that was sweeping through Europe.
We even had our own fascists,Edward Mosley and his blackshirts.( sounds like some indie band) all joking aside,we destroyed Fascism with many making the Ultimate Sacrafice.
We are now at a crossroads,I agree with BM,damned if you do damned if you don't.

But these brainwashed lunatics need to face the wrath of the west. They should of kept Saddam in power, but if we are going to do it make sure it's done proper.

Problem is if/when we destroy IS then who will replace them - we have gone from invading countries to remove "politically friendly" evil despots to neutralising Al Qua'eda, to interfering in localised civil wars which includes President Assad whilst taken our eyes of the ball from the shadowy figures such as IS so who will replace IS and will they be even more extreme than IS - each step we have taken we have made the situation even worse!!!

This, if it posted correctly, sums up the situation perfectly well as it is nowhere near as clear cut (black & white) as we seem to think......

Apart from bombing them, which I wholeheartedly agree with, steps should also be taken to choke off their funds, if possible, as the feet on the ground will be replaced whether the bombing campaign is successful or not.
Is this a modern version of the Crusades?

Sluffy, there is another can of worms been opened here!
The enemy within is going to have an excuse to retaliate within any country that participates in action against IS because that is how it is. I have my own thoughts on this matter and think they need to blown off the planet but this could go much deeper on this thread with others and PC Apologist will start to get upset!
Not saying anymore posing on this one.
And our halfwit famous boxer posing in the BN last week doesn't help matters!!

I'd actually be interested to hear your views SK.

SK, by not voicing your opinions, you are actually helping the 'other side'. Until the majority of the public's voice is heard, only the apologists, and followers of murderers and terrorism will be heard, and that, in effect, is giving them license to carry on. The same goes to Scott, speak up. Do you really think giving your opinion will make any difference to this murderous scum?, No, but it will reinforce the national way of thinking, and may even help the politicians to think past their own selfish aims.

Of course, if you are of the opinion that the IS is a good thing, then I'm sure you can explain why. Whatever your views, feel free to share them

To be honest it's an impossible situation, I normally feel strongly against conflict but this is a very tough one to call either way. On one hand the rhetoric and media coverage of IS has clearly been over the top, I don't think they cause an imminent danger to us or are as powerful as is made out.

We played a big part in causing this mess when we shouldn't have got involved in the first place. So I think we need to help sort it out now. I'm just not convinced air strikes is the way to go, we'll undoubtedly cause more civilian casualties and just help radicalise the next generation against the West. It's all a bit of token politics really isn't it, we've sent 6 planes to help out which will make very little difference other than the fact we can say we supported the US again.

I've said it all earlier that we should blow them away but beware of the backlash at home! How simple is that?
What excuse have they got for their actins? Muslim killing Muslim, how numb is that? Allah is great! Yeh, right!!

Easier said than done. Presuming we did manage to blow ISIS away where does that leave us? A couple of years down the line and another group pops up. It's an entire ideology that's the problem and I don't think any amount of bombs will destroy that.

Apologies SK, I seem to have read over that one. It was the comment that you didn't want to pass comments that I picked up on.
At least we are in agreement with what should be done Very Happy

Agreed that there is no easy way out. However, if we don't react we will be seen as a weak and gutless country, fit for even more punishment. Their scorn and behaviour will only get worse, and why should we subject Britons to that, when we can do something about it.
