Clarke or Hughton would be my two top choices so i'd be happy (well as happy as you can be being a Wanderers fan) with either of them.

Need to get it done early next week to at least give them a chance of seeing a few training sessions before the Birmingham game.

Any of those 3 have the potential to do something with a bunch of Championship reserves... without really knowing shit about any of them. Let's face it, they're all a gamble and none of us know whether any of the current squad have the ability or balls to make a go of it for anyone coming in. Biggest gamble of their careers in my opinion and I wouldn't touch it with yours. Only a desperate or disillusioned clown picks it up from here

They are all decent managers in their own way, but whether or not they have the perhaps unique skillset required to make a success out of our current situation - and whether or not they would be any improvement on Dougie is another question altogether.
We were always going to have to face this problem. It could be argued that our situation is unique too (who else has experienced this level of debt and lack of investment?) so I doubt any manager is equipped to deal with it and whoever is appointed will therefore be a gamble.

I'd imagine that sorting out the first X1 on the pitch will be the top priority and any of these 3 should be able to do that - it's the rest that worries me.

Don't believe for one minute Lennon has ever been in the running personally.

Just don't get it.

Neil Lennon set for talks with Saudi club

One of the leading candidates to fill the vacant manager’s hot-seat at Wanderers is considering taking a job in the Middle East.

Reports in Scotland claim Neil Lennon, the former Celtic boss, was set for talks with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad today.

The Northern Irishman, who has been out of work since leaving Parkhead at the end of last season, is understood to have contacted Wanderers earlier this week about the post.

The offer from the Middle East was made some time before Dougie Freedman’s departure last week but Lennon’s decision to fly over for talks is a strong indication that Wanderers have not reciprocated his interest.

Ex-Norwich City boss Chris Hughton is now outright favourite for the job – even-money with some bookmakers – although odds have also shortened overnight on former Leeds United manager Dennis Wise, another name who has thrown his hat into the ring.

Tony Mowbray and Malky Mackay remain in contention, with Phil Gartside looking to make up his mind over the weekend, with a view to making an announcement early next week.

The chairman has filtered down from a list of 24 viable options and wants to speak formally with a small number of candidates in the next 48 hours.

He's a braver man than me if he takes that gig.

I know Saudi's regarded as being relatively safe for westerners but with what's happening at the moment, I wouldn't be going anywhere near the Middle East.

Gartside may be a slimeball, but I don't think he's ever chained anybody to a radiator......

Lennon is favourite for the job now. Read this morning about the job he has been offered in Saudi Arabia. £30,000 a week in the sun and wait for a better job than ours to come along. He would be mad to come here, only thin about Bolton that would be better is he is ginger and pale and the sun might not agree with him.

A mate of mine who is well informed on all matters Wanderers has sent me a text to inform me it's a two horse race between Clarke and Lennon. The board will make a decision today and an announcement will be made tomorrow.

Thats what Nixon said on twitter.

long odds for Clarke if he is indeed in the running. Worth a bet if you believe Nixon.

Current odds have Lennon at almost even money, whereas Clarke is hovering around twenties.

Might be worth a punt.

For what Clarke has in experience we may as well go for Phill Brown. I'd rather have Lennon than Clarke.

I don't even like Neil Lennon but there's something sadistic in me that thinks it'd be brilliant, It'd be fireworks anyway.

Still I think Clark is a safe appointment, took West Brom to their best ever finish I believe but had a very bad run after that... bit of a worry, who knows. I'd much rather have Hughton than Clark.

Nixon says they have interviewed people. Bolton News says Gartside wants to speak to people tomorrow. BBC says Lennon is in Saudi Arabia. I say I saw Chris Hughton in Scotts Bar last night. Steve Clarke doesn't say anything and Tony Mowbray said something but I fell asleep before he finished.

In conclusion our next manager will be a human male between the age of 35 and 60.

What has Lennon ever done in management?

Nothing against the guy, but this would be another crazy backwards step. What experience does he have of managing to a budget?

Lennon out.

Thanks for clarifying it for us amigo.

Saudi job would be a cracker for Lennon - he'd get top wages, VIP treatment an outstanding expat social life etc but would have to deliver as there are a number of Gulf State princes in serious competition with each other.

If he's an ignorant racist he might turn it down though.

In his favour, he's not a soft touch and has a great track record managing quality players - and I think Celtic have had their fair share of quality players. Whether he can do it with donkeys remains to be seen.

Ex-Cardiff City and Watford boss Mackay out of the running at Wanderers?

Malky Mackay appears to be out of the race for the vacant managerial position at Wanderers.

One of the leading early candidates to replace Dougie Freedman, the former Cardiff City boss had indicated he would be interested in the post and is believed to have held discussions with chairman Phil Gartside.

However, over the last 24 hours, mixed messages have been sent out about whether the 42-year-old would be available to take the job on.

Sources in South Wales claimed this morning that issues surrounding his acrimonious exit at the Bluebirds would prevent him from taking the role, and that he had a change of heart.

They were disputed this afternoon by another source close to the Scot - who insisted he was still confident he was being considered by the Whites.

The Football Association are investigating a dossier sent to them by Cardiff which made allegations of racist texts sent between Mackay and his former recruitment chief Ian Moody, which came to light in August.

Mackay has since made a public apology on the matter and stated his desire to continue his managerial career.

Despite the controversy, Wanderers fans appeared ready to embrace Mackay.

A poll conducted by the Burnden Aces website found 26 per cent of voters in favour of his appointment, beating Neil Lennon and Steve Clarke into second and third place respectively.

Wanderers are declining to comment publically on any candidate but it is thought they are hoping to make an appointment early next week.

Lennon out.

You (pretended) to back Di Canio a while back, Lennon would bring the same kind of pitch side "passion" and "fireworks" that many were asking for.

but I agree he doesn't bring an incredible pedigree but champions league experience and managing the expectations of Celtic isn't to be sniffed at.

People like Mowbray who has got all the experience in the world found that job too big for them.

Anyway It wont be Lennon.

I still back Di Canio - he has the passion and fireworks but has also proven he can do a job on a limited budget.
