Everybody's favourite tracksuit wearing ping pong fanatic has just been on Sky Sports News discussing all things football (all the proper experts must be busy, with it being Monday morning) and he's just divulged something interesting about Cahill's sale to Chelsea.

In the murky world of BWFC's finances, we never really get a clear picture about how much we make on players when we flog 'em, but Owen's just said that City came in for Cahill and offered £16 million plus Nedum Onuoha but it fell through because of some "infighting" between Mancini and Garry Cook.

And we subsequently sold Cahill to Chelsea for £6 million plus £1 million if they won the league (which they did), a sum described by Coyle as being "insignificant".

Interesting stuff.

And more than a tad frustrating to have it (apparently) confirmed that we lost out on ten million quid.........

It was also interesting / amusing to hear Coyle say that he thinks he's too good to go back and manage in Scotland again because he had three seasons managing in the Prem and "did very well".......

....right up to the point where he managed to fuck things up royally at Bolton, get us relegated, do cock all in the Championship, get sacked, go to Wigan, do cock all and get sacked.......again.

He'll be at Chorley soon, you watch......

Stop it now, Owen.....it's not even funny any more.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Amazing what goes on behind closed doors. Not too fussed about losing out on onuoha but missing out on £10 million is a bit of a kick in the teeth really. £16 million probably reflects his true value at the time. OC should have stayed at burnley and waited to see where it took him. Much like dougie at palace really. People always seem to think the grass will be greener but it usually ends up showing them up for the tactically inept and ultimately useless managers they really are. Lower leagues or Scottish football would be the best move for coyle now I think.

At the time Cahill was sold I couldn't believe that Coyle sanctioned the deal so he's got some effing cheek to complain about it now.
I heard it was £7 million - despite an alleged contract buy out clause of £17.5 million - which City met (16 plus Onouha)
Chelsea didn't meet it though, so what happened to the clause?
Some people suggest that we had an arrangement with Chelsea to borrow young players on loan - a rider to the Cahill deal - but that has never been proven.

So if the clause was £17.5 million, what happened in those few weeks that changed? And why did we sell anyway? If Coyle was ever willing and honest enough to tell us that he'd go up in my opinion.

Yes I've often wondered what happened. Cahill was clearly worth more than £6/7m. I know we couldn't force him to extend his contract but was no other club interested at all? We seem to get stitched up on transfers too often but this has to be the worst deal ever (apart from buying Len Cantello of course).
