Evatt 'concerned' as Wanderers down to bare bones for Peterborough trip 16430901

Wanderers’ lack of options has got Ian Evatt worried as they head towards another crunch promotion showdown at Peterborough United.

Guaranteed to be without eight first team players on Saturday, the Whites boss is unsure whether Randell Williams will be ready to play after recovering from a hamstring injury.

He is also keeping a close eye on Declan John’s condition this week, with the Welshman coming through his first 90-minute appearance in three months during Saturday’s narrow home win against Cheltenham Town.

Dan Nlundulu (hamstring), George Johnston (ankle), Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (ankle), George Thomason (knee), Jack Iredale (knee), MJ Williams (knee), Conor Bradley and Elias Kachunga (both suspended) are definitely unavailable, leaving Evatt short on bodies.

B Team midfielder Nelson Khumbeni was drafted into the squad at the weekend, with youth teamer Sam Inwood also involved in the matchday group as wing-back cover.

Bradley’s 10th yellow card of the season could not possibly have arrived at a more inopportune time and will mean Evatt has to make at least one change to a winning team.

The manager allowed Kieran Sadlier to join Leyton Orient on loan and sold both Dapo Afolayan and Will Aimson last month but said the extent of the current injury list could not have been foreseen.

“There’s no point denying that I’m concerned,” he told The Bolton News. “And I know people will say ‘you shouldn’t have sold players’ but you can’t just keep people parked up and see what happens with injuries.

“We have had a little bit of bad luck but there are lots of teams that have do deal with this sort of scenario, we’re not alone.

“We are blessed that we have a good squad and some quality players. Some of the ones who maybe haven’t been getting as many opportunities have now got a chance to take one.”
