The Dunscar or the Bank Top should win it. Both have excellent selections of real ale but the food in the Bank Top is quality.

I went to try the House Without A Name but couldn't find it.

I used to drink in the dunscar arms years ago and then it shut down, I thought it was still closed till this day to be honest.

It's a shame that bank top'a brewery rivals aren't in this, the brew house (dunscar brewery) formally known as the cheetham arms on Blackburn road as that's a fantastic pub and they have around 12 real ales on all the time that change frequently.

Really cheap as well, had a guest ale for around £1.80 not so long back!

What was the pub called right at the top of Halliwell Road near to the Bank Top? For years it was run by a former Wanderers player and there were old football photos on the walls. My memory has deserted me because I can't remember the player or the pub.

Do you mean the pineapple although that was on the corner of Blackburn road and crompton way facing mossbank way?

No it wasn't the Pineapple. That was in Astley Bridge near Asda. I played darts in there as well. It was the HQ of the Astley Bridge Darts League.

This pub was the very last one on Halliwell Road on the right just before the lights.
