Putin won't invade Ukraine, there's just no upside to it. Russia would be an outcast and would be financially stuffed.

It's just a lot of posturing by bored old men. They should start a football forum to iron out their differences.

Putin willb angry with our broadcasters today, and I would probably think he will try to invade us!  Why?  Putting the Ukranian troubles second to Moyes' sacking!!!  That will mean less television exposure for Putin!

Seems Russia may be testing our defense responses....

Are we on the verge of another 'cold war'? - Page 6 148068823-1-522x293
Two Russian bombers which flew close to UK airspace have been chased away by an RAF jet fighter.
The aircraft, believed to be Tupolev 95s, were spotted off the coast of northeast Scotland.
They were turned away from Britain when an RAF Typhoon was scrambled from Leuchars airbase, near Dundee.
Crews stationed there are on standby to intercept unidentified aircraft at a moment's notice.
The incident comes amid heightened international tensions over the situation in Ukraine, following the annexation of Crimea by Russia last month.

It also follows the arrival of a Russian warship, the Vice Admiral Kulakov, in waters off the coast of Britain.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the vessel was met by Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dragon, which is "keeping an eye" on the ship's movement.
Sky's Defence Correspondent Alistair Bunkall said foreign planes often fly close to UK airspace, with eight similar incidents reported in 2013.
"The RAF Typhoon is one of Britain's quick reaction aircraft and would have gone up, made contact with the Russian planes and ensured they did not plan to fly into British airspace," he said.
"These sorts of events happen quite regularly and that maybe surprising for some people.
"It's all about testing defences and seeing exactly what your 'enemy' is capable of."
The two Russian planes were escorted by the Typhoon, as well as military aircraft from the Netherlands and Denmark, until they flew off towards Scandinavia.
Also known as 'Bears', the aircraft - turboprop-powered bombers which also conduct airborne surveillance - have been used for more than 50 years.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: "The Russian military aircraft remained in international airspace at all times and they are perfectly entitled to do so.
"Russian military flights have never entered UK sovereign airspace without authorisation."

What is to stop Putin getting cosy with Alex Salmond and his bid for Scottish independence? A few roubles in the right coffers could be a nice little sweetener. Two years from now we could have the black fleet legally patrolling the outer Hebrides. The Jocks could get cheap oil from Russia in return for an agreement to rebuild Hadrians wall.

Due to Cameron scaling down our army and equipment etc, we would have to bend over and take one if Russia invaded as their army and equipment is absolutely huge.

We wouldn't stand a chance!

I'm sure the good old USA would intervene and help us,  we do have a 'special' relationship

Putin has no interest in the UK. He is more interested in annexing former soviet republics that still have a small concentration of Russians within their populace. Divide and conquer is his philosophy.

Do you think there's even a slight chance of Russia invading Britain?

Thank Christ we are part of Europe! If the Russians decide to invade us the French and the Germans will not allow it.

Its not the size, its what you do with it that counts.

Russia will think twice, the UK is one of the worlds big nuclear powers, we don't have the 1000's of Warheads that Russia has, however, we are still a viable threat and Mutually Assured Destruction is still a threat to Russia.

Russia's Nuclear arsenal consists mainly of cold-war era ICBMs and plane delivered bombs - most of the planes would be shot down before they even got close to us. Not saying we wouldn't be destroyed but we can cause the same damage to the entire country of Russia and its allies. We have Subs equipped with 40 Trident D5 MIRVs each - a MIRV is Multiple Independent Re-Entry Vehicle... Each Missile holds up to 12 warheads and can hit 12 independent targets with an explosion 100 times bigger than the bombs that landed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We are still a Viable threat. Not to mention the Nuclear Arsenals of our 'allies' - especially America. Putin would be a fool and risk the lives of his own civilians as well as military.

The only time this would ever become a serious risk though is if we have to launch a conventional assault on Russia - If Putin panics and presses that button... goodnight Vienna im afraid. NATO can and WILL respond to a nuclear attack even a relatively small nuclear exchange using battlefield /tactical nuclear weapons will quickly escalate. The government will be held up in Corsham Bunker, if we are lucky, we will die.

Filmed in the mid-80s... I actually challenge anybody to watch this and sleep easy that night.

The Italians have once again embarked on mass production of tanks with six reverse gears in readiness for Putin's invasion.
