What is the point of going to a wine bar if all you're going to drink is Vimto?

The legal personal allowance in Qatar in the 70s was 30 litres of whisky a month. 
In Saudi most expats would do a gallon of Sid plus home brew beer and wine every month.

Let's face it - there wasn't much else to do other than get hammered in your spare time and social life tended to revolve around booze.

Yes, but they take ages to dissolve in the water, so I stick to making it with the cordial.

There were around 10 temperance bars in Bolton until the war apparently. My gran reckoned they closed down because of the religious fanaticism that tended to mar what was otherwise a very nice experience.

Quite partial to a glass of D & B or Sarsaparilla out of a stone jar - especially with a scoop of ice cream floating in it.

When I was a kid there were just Italian places like Tognorelli's and Sabini's and they closed when the shops closed.

We used to go to Ferretti's in Horwich when I was a kid but that's long gone now, too....

If I remember correctly there used to be a Temperence bar on Halliwell Rd near Moss Street Baths in the 60's. Sarsparilla and Dandy was the order of the day.
