Should there be football on Christmas Day?

I am just watching nba live on bt sport now, there is an nba marathon on now - 5 matches live on the bounce. It's a cracking good atmosphere, clearly a real appetite for it. Shouldn't there be football on, on xmas day?

Why do we not play New Years day?

Not to detract from the glory of the Premier League I expect, it would be better to play New Years Day and have the 28th off.
