Are the Greens just UKIPpers who hug trees....?

Cyprus has already signed up to a deal with the Turkish Government ( believe it or not! ) regarding the oil situation. We have no claim on any oil reserves in Cypriot waters. It's between Greece and Turkey.

Don't try and act like you're about defence, you want a strong army to muscle in on another countries resources. The sort of mentality that has caused countless wars.

I know, we will get the contracts to build the infrastructure to extract it though.

No, its about defence.

Again then, defence from what? Your bicep/MMA analogy is all well and good but we're a nuclear power already we could have a much smaller army for defence and still have enough not to be invaded by an aggressor which doesn't exist at the moment.

Not that simple. 

You cant have a massive Nuclear deterrent and virtually no army. 

Nuclear weapons are there not to be used, you only use them as an absolute last resort, if we have no armed forces, they become our only option. Scary prospect that. 

We no longer have a 'no first use' policy... but it would take some ridiculous chain of events for us to use them. 

A bigger armed force, prevents things (potentially) getting that bad. 

Actually, our nuclear deterrent isn't that big. we have enough warheads to obliterate the whole of Eastern Europe, most of them are stockpiled. think we have about 180 active warheads of variable yield (between tactical and strategic KTonnage) and another couple of hundred stockpiled at aldermaston.  Each trident  sub is capable of carrying 160 warheads but only carries (at present) about 40 and 16 MIRV'd Missiles.
