I've been on the lookout for something to mess about with at weekends and have a bit of fun in for a while and I've spotted this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-PORSCHE-BOXSTER-3-2-S-BLUE-FACELIFT-MODEL-260BHP-52-000-miles-/111610185721?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19fc7c47f9

It looks bang on but the Cat C write-off thing is worrying me a bit.

I know that Cat C write-offs aren't as serious as A's and B's and the reasons are generally cosmetic rather than structural, but it's still been written off at some point and, as I've never bought or insured one before, I was wondering if anybody on here has any experience of having done so.

Cheers.

What is the difference in price for one that isn't written off?

Looks like it will need a new hood.

It doesn't have any service history, parts are going to cost a bit if it breaks down as well.

About four grand, judging on the low mileage.

It does look quite good for it's age.

Could it be just me with the fact that they haven't mentioned what the damage was that something could be fishy perhaps?

That's what I'm thinking as well, KP.........

Just how much cosmetic damage would you have to do to one of these to write it off, I'm wondering?

And I don't trust second hand dealers and especially not ones from Gorton......

We had that a couple of years ago when I bought the sports coupe that I drive every day.

I'm cured now, thanks.

Honest......

We need a noise on here like they have on QI when someone gives an obvious (and incorrect) answer.

The 3.2L facelift Boxster goes like shit off a shovel and pins you back to your seat in first gear, so it ain't no hairdresser's car, mate.

Is this all because your Mrs wouldn't let you have that new Xbox and made you go back to work? Very Happy

Yes.

She will regret that decision.

As for the car, a mate of mine used to have one and it did over 160 mph easily with plenty of pull still left on the M6 at about four o'clock one morning with me screaming in the passenger seat and begging him to slow down.

And I decided there and then that one day I'd get one.

(But I won't be doing 160.......)

I am an expert on eBay drivel - stay well clear of that car.

I asked the seller about the nature of the damage that resulted in the Cat C write off and here's his reply:

"Hi,

It was side damage and as far as I can see its had a door, wing and quarter panel with no signs of any chassis repair. They write them off for very little these days, it doesn't take much. It doesn't need any certificate as its been inspected and this is recorded on the V5.

Regards, Steve"

Hmmmmm....shall I?

Will you be discussing this with Mrs Bread?
If I remember rightly, you once bought a rather expensive guitar, and told porkies about the cost, but were found out at a later date.
Or was that KP?

Nope, that was me.

I'd forgotten about that. (Unlike both you and Mrs Bread, it appears.)

Anyway, I'll just get her a bunch of daffs or something....she'll be fine.

Eventually....... Very Happy
