If we terminate without his agreement we have to pay him up in full. If he requests a transfer and gets it we owe him zip, nada. Generally what happens in a terminated contract is a "mutual agreement" where the player takes a bit less so he can play elsewhere without having to wait for a window or a transfer to be arranged and the club he's at knows they'll lose him for free anyway and want to save a few quid by giving him an early exit.wanderlust wrote:If Spearing's contract is terminated early i.e. now, will he be entitled to the full £3 million wages that he will receive if he stays with us until summer 2017? Or do we just have to give him £400k and be done with it?
These stories about players leaving keep creeping out but surely we have to at least try to sell all the seniors that are on massive wages next season?
It will be interesting to see how much of a fight the club put up to resign Woolery and Holding in the summer because unless they get rid of a few of the big earners we won't be able to offer them anything. Either way we have to put at least 10 senior players on the market (in addition to those whose contracts are up) just to get somewhere near the right level of expenditure and give us a chance of rebuilding from scratch.

A little bird north of the border has indicated that Celtic are interested in Spearing.

Also noticed that Lennon threw his hat into the ring for the Celtic job yesterday so that may put the kibosh on it as Lennon parked him for much of his time here. Lennon has moved back into his Glasgow house so I think he's desperate for the job.rammywhite wrote:luckyPeterpiper wrote:If we terminate without his agreement we have to pay him up in full. If Lennon gets the job, lets hope he gives us a decent fee for Clough, knowing were desperate.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!
Interested in this chap apparently, Martin Braithwaite, plays for Toulouse. Not sure how we can be interested in anyone at the moment seeing as we're under an embargo and don't have a manager.

He was linked with Leicester and West Ham for £4 million can't imagine he would be signing for us, even without the embargo.Bwfc1958 wrote:Interested in this chap apparently, Martin Braithwaite, plays for Toulouse. We may as well try to sign him - we've nothing Toulouse if we fail.

Except for the fact we can't sign him or anybody else. I don't know why the papers are trying to link us with anyone because the League has made it clear with their refusal to let Ameobi play for us for free. They aren't going to sanction any signings at all until and unless we send them the books they demanded almost a year ago and they are satisfied by what they see when (if) they get them. Sorry to be a neg-head (or smeg-head) about this but the embargo means there's no point in even approaching anyone. Even if we did why would they talk to us? As things stand it would be a colossal waste of time and I for one wouldn't believe a word of it if BWFC came to me and said "Oh don't worry, the embargo's going to be sorted soon" because nothing even close to the truth has come out of the Macron for several years now.Sluffy wrote:We may as well try to sign him - we've nothing Toulouse if we fail.

Nobody knows if Sport Shield will get the embargo lifted in the summer. So to say they definitely won't isn't a case of being realistic, it's just pessimistic.
Having said that Braithwaites out of our league anyway IMO, can't imagine there's any truth in it.

I know boggers but the fact is it matters. Personally I can't understand why the new owners would be content to leave it in place the way lusty suggests they've said because if I was a player's agent I wouldn't even enter negotiations with a club that's under embargo no matter what assurances they gave about it being lifted soon would you?Boggersbelief wrote:You've said Embargo about 8 million times in the past 3 days pete
I realise the window's not open until July 1st but you know as well as I do that a lot of deals are agreed long before then and all that needs to be done on July 1st is to file the paperwork formalising it. Given how badly our squad needs overhauling I'd be moving heaven and earth to get rid of the embargo now so I could at least make initial approaches to players with some credibility. I'm sorry if you think that's overly negative of me but don't you find it strange that the embargo is not only still in place but nothing (or close to it) has been said by the club about how and when it could be lifted?

I'm not saying they definitely won't mate, just that the longer it's in place the harder we're going to find it to sign the players we actually want rather than ones we can get only because no one else does. Personally I'm of the opinion that SS are sitting on it until late June for reasons of their own. Someone on here, I can't remember who suggested there might be a fee payable to get it lifted which is why SS are sitting on it because they don't want to pay any money out until they absolutely have to. If that's the case then so be it although I think they're being short sighted if it is. I just find it odd that nothing seems to be being said or done about it when other clubs will be making initial approaches to potential targets already. If lusty was right and Sport Shield really have said they're happy to leave the embargo in place for now I'm both stunned and disappointed because I honestly feel getting rid of it should have been their first priority after sorting the tax bill.bwfc1874 wrote:Nobody knows if Sport Shield will get the embargo lifted in the summer.
