But who said he has business acumen?  He invented a kettle element so he has brains but doesnt mean he cant be easily mislead by the wrong people.

He built the kekkle business up from a small shop in Bolton to a multi-million pound enterprise, so I'm assuming he's no Magoo.
I started my business with £1500 it turned over 1.6 mil so piss off bread.

I was just about to say that you have had some very successful businesses over the years Magoo.

I can vouch from what I know that Magoo is telling the truth Smile

Has he prioritised payment to the poorly paid minions who rely on their wages month to month to survive?

Nah - They aren't assets which he can recoup money on when the administrator starts flogging stuff off to pay the creditors, ie him.

So he finds this mystery money to pay the millionaire players instead.

Arsehole.
I think you owe Eddie an apology he's not paying any of the players.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Nice one magoo. Never had you down as the millionaire type.

Don't suppose you have enough money to buy a certain football club by any chance?

Breadman wrote:Lusty,

Do you honestly believe that someone with the acumen to become a successful business owner (I don't mean BWFC, I mean the other stuff he's involved in) would not be bright enough to see if he was being mislead by his lieutenants?
I was merely responding to Manda's assertion that ED had a responsibility - which he may have morally but not legally I'd have thought, however you and Norpig make a fair point.
It is incredible that the finances have got to this stage - I mean what did they think was going to happen that would have prevented this?

To use your own argument: if "successful businessman with business acumen" ED was aware of all the facts don't you think he would have reined in the expenditure and put measures in place to boost income years ago?

Or are you saying he's got business acumen but not in this case?

To me it looks like he put his trust in someone else as I wouldn't have thought he had the time to micromanage the club.

I just don't buy the idea that ED was fully aware of the situation and yet stood by and let it worsen year on year. That really would be dumb.

Correct me if I'm wrong by ED sold his kettle element business a while a go. What would've been more pressing than his football club investment? What the fuk else would he be busy with?

Lusty, in answer to your question about the staff preferences I would ask what's the point in having a job if you don't get paid for it and get left skint at Christmas? Personally I think this shows Eddie's true character to a T. He paid the players in order to protect an asset that might bring him money back. The much lower paid staff who needed the money a lot more don't have a commercial value so he didn't give a damn about them, they can go skint at Christmas and it won't bother him for a moment.

Conversely if you've been paid for the last 11 months and have the choice between receiving one more months pay and then being laid off or being paid late and having a job to go to in the future I'd have thought most folk would prefer to wait and keep their jobs.

As to your insight into EDs mind, I've absolutely no idea if it bothered him or not and neither have you, so why speculate?

That suggests that the reason they're not being paid is because to do so would jeopardise the future of the business.

But it's not like that, is it?

ED has decided he doesn't want to pay them, not that he can't.

Big difference.

If it bothered him he would have paid them. Simple stuff really. As Breadman points out he had the money to pay the players who are on far higher wages than people like office staff so it was a choice brought on by commercial self-interest. I don't think it's a wild speculation to say that's Eddie's motivation under the circumstances.

You can't not pay staff, nor can you lay off too many without closing revenue streams. So if he doesn't pay staff this month and none of them turn up for subsequent home games, won't the H and S bods close the stadium as there'll be no fire or security cover? Turning into Fred Karno's Circus. On a bright note, the local cinema have a 2 for 1 on popcorn so not all bad.

Merry Christmas Eddie, think about the staff that can't afford gifts for their children before you stuff your face and have some fine wine.
