Extreme Railways with Chris Tarrant - Wednesday 9pm

This week he is travelling on and along the Ghan Line (I travelled Gold class in 2009 between Adelaide and Alice Springs) that stretches from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territories - calling at a few places of interest along the way (I am assuming Coober Pedy and Alice Springs - both places I have been to).

Two episodes in a row it's had me in tears (laughter of course I'm not sick)

Some bits of it are hilarious.

I will check it out. If it's crap I will kill you.

Spoiler:

The ending was pants. Just like the show really. Ace special FX, but crap story lines and some dire acting at times.

Natasha likes shows that are intellectually a bit shallower than stuff like The Walking Dead.

Think CSI:Miami, Burn Notice and Miami Vice.

It is compared to those other shows.

I've only watched Burn Notice of those three, a series about spies and the internal workings of the government. While I'm not saying it's intellectual, at least you do have to listen to follow what's going on.

The Walking Dead looks ace because of the walkers, but take them out of the programme and you've got a very tired story.

So you're basically saying that if you take the zombies out of the zombie show, it wouldn't be a zombie show?!

Smart girl.

Smart girl.

I saw an interview on tv the other day with the writer of The Walking Dead. He made it quite clear that from season 2 onwards he wanted the programme to be less about the zombies, and more about the humans. He actually said he wanted it to stand alone as a drama without the zombies.

He failed.

but it's based on a comic book series, which is way ahead of the show.

I never saw that interview, so I'll take your word on that. He didn't fail though, because the story of Woodbury, the Prison camp and the human response to the new world has been very well written and acted (without forgetting the fact that the new world is one full of flesh eating zombies).

Good point, I'd actually forgotten that.

(I'm not much of a comic book reader tbh)

The TV show writers just pick and chose aspects/characters of the comic to adapt.

Of course they add certain characters/plots to make it more TV centric but Kirkman has to OK all of it.

There is a good docu about Cuba on BBC 2 at 9pm tonight. Also Gordon Ramsay is back showing the Yanks how to cook in his Kitchen Nightmares USA series on Channel 4 at 10pm.
