Fabrice Muamba thoroughly enjoyed returning to Macron Stadium for last weekend’s Bolton Wanderers Community Trust and Supporters’ Trust Legends Match.

A late arrival having initially been hesitant to confirm his involvement, the midfielder’s appearance marked his first appearance at BL6 since he was forced to retire in 2012.

Rolling back the years as to score a penalty from the substitutes’ bench, Muamba was glad the charity game gave him the opportunity to show his appreciation for the Wanderers supporters one more time.

“Bolton will always remain special to me in many ways,” the former England Under-21s international told bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle. “They have always been good to me through the ups and downs.

“It’s the first time I’ve come back to play. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it, but when I looked at everything I thought I have nothing to lose.

“All I had to do is show up and show my appreciation to the people of Bolton. I really enjoyed it.”

Muamba continued: “It was fantastic coming out here and playing for such a wonderful occasion.

“It was great to see so many old faces and it was nice to score, but the best thing was to see so many fans.

“It has been a very difficult year for everyone connected with this football club, so for us to all be here today and get these numbers is really positive.

“For them to all come out after the year the club has been through is really appreciated.”
