Watched a sky arts prog on the Hollies in the sixties find it hard to believe they made it as I thought they were shit compared to the likes of the kinks,BeeGees etc their vocals were weak and songs were awful rubbish.

After watching two episodes of Born to Be Wild on BBC Four and various other stuff on Sky Arts I came to the somewhat biased conclusion that little argument can be placed in the fact that two of the best, if not the best bands to walk the planet are the Doors and Led Zeppelin.
After the sixties in America, when the Doors were most prominent, the number of American musicians that passed the comment that LZ laid the template was pretty conclusive.
What was revealed, and I remember vaguely at the time, was the pannings that LZ albums got by the British press until Bonzo's death. Such a price had to be paid for knocking the Beatles off their perch when performing live in America, despite the fact that one career started much as another ended. The comparison of LZ 3 to the eponymous Crosby, Stills and Nash album was hideous to the extreme.

This video sums up record producers and their obsession with projecting the right image. Ann was the lead singer and had the powerful voice but at the time that this video was shot she had put on a bit of weight. Notice how she is wearing a big jacket and is virtually always in the background in the dark whereas Nancy who is slimmer gets the bright light treatment?
Disgusting to think that they could get away with this kind of shit back then.

I have always found people's taste in music to be very subjective. I was a big fan of Cream, Budgie, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heap, The Stones, BTO and the Doobie Brothers when I was younger.
Some of the modern day singer songwriters are very talented. I can listen to Ed Sheeran and James Blunt quite easily. Did you know that James Blunt has had OCD for most of his life?

Sorry, Karls......
Peter Hooton is a fucking cock.
When I was at university in Birminghmam in the late 80's, my mate was at Liverpool and I went to see him one weekend and went to a party in the halls of residence.
Peter "twat" Hooton was there with his alleged "band" (not playing, just mooching about) and he was a prick.
It was before they'd had a hit but he was strolling round, playing King Shit and he tried making a move on my mate's girlfriend.
He got twatted.
Section Five 1-0 Scouse wanker.

Family gigging again! I remember seeing them back in the 60's. Great live band.
But I also liked the Doors. Their first album and L A Woman are both classics.
