Whereabouts in Stretford was it? I remember Sands nightclub but I can't place the Hardrock. There used to be a club on Greatstone Road at the side of Lancashire Cricket ground but it's been a B&Q since the late seventies.

Cheers Bonce. I thought it might have been where B & Q is now. I lived near there in 78 but the place had already closed.

I can remember seeing Bowie, Focus, Genesis, Santana and King Crimson there. It was a pain in the arse to get to by public transport but it was a great venue if somewhat dodgy acoustics.
Free Trade Hall was the top place in Manc at the time.

Loved the FTH. Being into classical music as well as contemporary stuff I had a season ticket. The Halle used to do a season of Thursday and Sunday concerts and Thursday was my preferred option cos the buses were more reliable. Saw Sandy Denny there in 1970,she was with Fotheringay at the time, and if my memory serves me,one of the supporting bands was The Humblebums, and I'm  pretty certain Nick Drake was involved too. Still mad about Sandy. What a loss.

Not a big fan of singer songwriters but Sandy Denny was a great talent. She wrote some beautiful songs and had a wonderful voice. Sad the way she died.

I saw Screaming Lord Sutch at a pub called Band on the Wall in the late seventies/early eighties. It was only a small pub venue near to the Printworks in Manchester. It was a great night. The place was buzzing.

The Golden Garter in Wythenshawe was a decent venue in the seventies and early eighties. I saw Edwin Starr and Odyssey perform there.

Anyone remember Cyprus Tavern on Princess Street? Think it became The Granby later on.

I fuckin' love this tune.

One of the most under-rated British songwriters of all time in my book.

Brinsley Schwartz, Rockpile and as a solo artist - Nick Lowe, take a bow, sir:

Great version of a Nick Cave classic by the glorious Martha Wainwright.

It's my turn this week!

You're on bass, I want to play lead guitar for a change......
