Jamie Proctor is happy to see Wanderers on the front foot in pre-season – and wants the positive vibes to remain once the real business begins.
Fresh from scoring his second goal of the summer from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win against York City, the Whites striker has urged Phil Parkinson’s side to stay on the attack with the League One kick-off against Sheffield United less than a fortnight away.
Wanderers have two friendlies to go, starting with the visit of Premier League new boys Burnley to the Macron tomorrow night.
And Proctor has urged his team-mates to keep going forward.
“I think we’re looking more positive as a team,” he told The Bolton News. “It felt from my point of view like the midfield got hold of the ball and moved it wide with a bit of purpose.
“I think sometimes in pre-season games, particularly in this heat, you can keep hold of the ball and enjoy yourself.
“But I feel like we are getting the balance right now. There’s a time for keeping hold of the ball and a time to attack.
“We want to stay solid and in League One you have to make sure you work as hard as anyone else. With the quality we have in this squad, though, we need to give ourselves a chance to score goals and make sure our attacking players can get in the game.”
Phil Parkinson will look to finalise a couple of signings this week and will meet with chairman Ken Anderson tomorrow to discuss his next moves.
A right-back and a centre-half appear to be the first two positions to be filled but after losing Frazer Richardson to injury at Bootham Crescent, Neal Eardley’s chances of a permanent deal may have been given a boost.
Ex-Nottingham Forest and Sunderland defender Danny Collins has also been handed a trial, playing for the last 10 minutes on Saturday.
Parkinson is eager to add to his squad as quickly as possible.
“We need to get going,” he said. “We’ve been waiting for the Holding thing to go through but we’ve been saying for a while that we need to add to the squad.
“We’ve got plenty of irons in the fire but we need to start pushing the button on a few of the deals.
“I have been really pleased with how the lads have been to this point, training has been good, the mentality of the squad is getting stronger as well.”
