The curious aspect in all of this for me was the constant call by Brexiteers for a sovereign UK parliament to make up our own laws, to govern this country and not have Brussels dictate what we do.. Let our parliament make the laws.
What no -one wanted was that one politician. Teresa May, elected as prime minister by no-one in this country apart from her own party MPs to unilaterally make the decision to start the process about leaving.
So the judiciary says that's correct- it needs parliament to make the decision to start the ball rolling- and that means the revocation of the 1972 European Union act which took us in to the EU in the first place.
That's a parliamentary function- to change the law.!!
So we have the ridiculous situation of Brexiteers clamouring for a sovereign UK parliament dictating the law in this country- and the judiciary have just agreed with exactly that. Parliament should make the decision!!
So Brexiteers should be delighted- the judiciary has supported them in saying you wanted a sovereign parliament- and they've just agreed with you. Its parliament, our elected representatives and not Teresa May who'll make the decision to start the process. There's nothing in this that says Brexit won't happen- it just means our elected representatives will make the decision.
If you Brexiteers are so up in arms about this- then you should be addressing your remarks to your MP to make sure that he or she votes for what you want , and leave our independent judiciary alone.
