Ben Alnwick has called for Wanderers to make the most of back-to-back home games over the festive period after they lost away at Chesterfield on Saturday.

Paying their first ever visit to the Proact Stadium, Liam O’Neil’s solitary strike was enough to consign the Whites to a frustrating defeat.

But having triumphed in nine of their previous 11 Sky Bet League One outings, Alnwick has backed Bolton to return to winning ways as they prepare to host Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United.

“It’s very frustrating,” the goalkeeper admitted to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle. “We had enough chances to win the game but, for whatever reason, it wasn’t our day.

“We knew it was going to be hard. Every game is hard. It’s a case of now going away and analysing it and coming back stronger.

“The ball wasn’t going to go in for us. But if you look at the way we played, there are still a lot of positives to take.

“They got one chance in the first half and it’s flown in the top corner. It’s one of them, it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Alnwick continued: “We’re strong at home so we’ll be looking to put it right. We’ve got two home games now and we want to be taking six points from them.

“The lads have been brilliant at both ends of the field. We’ve been defending for our lives in our own box and getting the goals at the other end of the field.

“It just wasn’t meant to be today. I thought we played well but now we need to react and I know we will.

“The fans were unbelievable. Their support was incredible and I’m just sorry that we couldn’t get the win for them today.

“I want to thank them all because they were outstanding and we’ll be looking to put it right for them on Boxing Day.”
