Keeping Madine clearly wasn't an option but replacing him was. Instead, Parkinson was punted a makeweight replacement in Clough, someone to pacify the fans and keep them off the managements back.

That was the big failing because they knew Madine was going well before it actually happened.

Ref watch: Keith Stroud to oversee Wolves clash

Keith Stroud will take the whistle for Wanderers' clash with Wolves at Macron Stadium this weekend.

Mr Stroud pays his first visit to BL6 on Saturday as the Whites take part in their penultimate home game of the season, but he has overseen two Whites matches this year, including the reverse fixture against Wolves at Molineux back in November.

Enjoying his 15th campaign as a Football League referee, he last took charge of Phil Parkinson's men when they travelled to Norwich City in February, while he has dished out 130 yellow cards and seven red cards from his 30 outings so far this campaign.

John Flynn and Paul Hodskinson will run the line, while Tony Harrington is the fourth official.

You can numb the pain of our near certain loss against Wolves by doing the unthinkable and putting a bet on Wolves to win, strangely great odds of 19/20 for Wolves to win, that's like printing money.

Preview: Five talking points ahead of Bolton Wanderers v Wolves

As Wanderers prepare to host already-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers in their penultimate home game of the season, bwfc.co.uk highlights five talking points ahead of the match.

1. Home comforts

Bolton Wanderers return to Macron Stadium on Saturday as they host already-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While recent standards at home have slipped, losing three of their last four outings against Preston North End, Birmingham City and Millwall, the Whites will be eager to recapture their form from earlier in the season which included a run of just one league defeat in five months at BL6.

And having picked up home victories against fellow high-flyers Cardiff City, Bristol City and Aston Villa over the course of the season, Bolton will be looking to replicate such results and once against cause an upset in front of their own fans.

2. Party-poopers

Visitors Wolves need just a point on Saturday to secure the Sky Bet Championship title, having clinched promotion to the Premier League last weekend.

Boasting a 12-point lead at the table of the table, there is no doubt that West Midlands-based side will finish the season as Champions, with nearest challengers Cardiff City needing maximum points and a big turnaround in goal difference to steal the crown.

But with the Bluebirds playing in tomorrow's evening kick-off against Nottingham Forest, Phil Parkinson's men can delay the inevitable when they welcome Wolves to BL6, motivated by their own desire to secure their place in the second tier next season and boosted by last weekend's comeback draw away at Barnsley.

And having suffered a hard to stomach 5-1 defeat at Molineux earlier in the season, the Trotters will be playing for their own personal pride as well as league survival as they look to spoil the party on Saturday.

3. Former Wolves

With four former Wolves players on the books at Macron Stadium, Wanderers have a number of players who will be looking to get one over on their former employers come 3pm on Saturday.

Wolverhampton-born Karl Henry spent seven seasons with the club between 2006 and 2013, helping the club win promotion to the top-flight and successfully fight against relegation, while Mark Little started his career at Molineux having come through the club's youth ranks, ensuring both players will be afforded a warm reception by the travelling fans to Macron Stadium.

On the other side of the coin, Adam Le Fondre and David Wheater both endured forgettable loan spells with the club earlier in their careers.

All four players started the Whites' last match against Barnsley and will be hungry to retain their places as Bolton look to finish the season strongly.

4. Penultimate home game

This weekend's game will be the Trotters' last 3pm Saturday kick-off at Macron Stadium for another season as Wanderers take to the field for their penultimate game of the campaign.

With their home form predominantly strong during Phil Parkinson's reign as manager, the Whites will be looking to once again pick up a result in front of their home fans.

And with Wolves set to be backed a big away following, desperate to see their side win the title, the scene is set for an impressive atmosphere at Macron Stadium.

5. Back the boys!

With only three games of the season remaining, Bolton need every last fan to help the club over the line as they look to secure survival!

With a large crowd expected for the visit of the West Midlanders, the club is advising supporters to buy their tickets in advance of the fixture and to print at home to avoid large queues on the day.

So, why not secure your ticket for the game now and get behind the lads as they aim to get a positive result against the league leaders.

Tickets are priced from £28 per adult, £22 for Under-23s and Over-65s, £11 for Under-18s and £9 for Under-12s.

Predictable Parky team for this one, although I thought he'd give No-one another run out ahead of Buckley after his last performance.

Totally outplayed by a quality team. Every Wolves player looked comfortable on the ball, movement was great and finishing was excellent. Adobe looked a constant threat until he was subbed.
See what happens on Tuesday but there's a good chance we'll be in the bottom three by the end of the evening. Hopefully not but I'm struggling to see what Forest have to fight for whereas Barnsley will be going for it big time.

Was only 5 weeks ago we were 8 points clear of the drop, then clueless Parkinson goes into spineless mode and now find ourselves with a mountain to climb, Burton won away today and if Barnsley win at Forest we could be relegated next Saturday, just fuck Parkinson off while we still have a chance.
