Ken Anderson - update.

To sit at the summit, alongside Leeds and Middlesbrough, four games into the campaign and having played the quality of opposition we have is a fitting testament to the hard work the manager, his staff and players have put in over the summer months.

Ten points from 12 is a phenomenal effort by the group and firmly emphasises not only the quality and strength in depth we have at our disposal but also the never-say-die attitude and camaraderie which reverberates in the changing room.

On Wednesday evening against Birmingham City this was illustrated in abundance. Ben Alnwick was unbeatable and made several world class saves, while the back line defended stoically.

The midfield not only did a terrific job in screening the defence, but also passed the ball around with flair and kept Birmingham on the back foot for large swathes of the match.

Whilst our forwards, led superbly by Josh Magennis, who I am sure will claim the goal, never gave the Blues’ defence a minute’s peace.

All in all, a splendid performance played on our home soil and one which we will be looking to repeat on Saturday against the Blades.

I’ve seen some various comments recently from opposing managers and TV pundits who have commented on our style and luck. But for me, it’s our quality, team spirit and our outstanding levels of fitness and energy that are helping us get the results.

Credit must go to the backs-to the-wall-approach and never-say-die attitude by our players and management staff in getting the job done and getting us over the line. Last season, we lost games where we should have won.

Yes, it is great to have the rub of the green but I’m a firm believer that you make your own luck – and long may it continue!

As I have said on many occasions - even though we have a 100% record on our travels thus far - our home form will ultimately be the key indicator of our success in 2018/19.

We are absolutely delighted to have brought in Joe Williams who joins us from Everton on a season-long loan. Joe is a highly-rated midfielder who spent last season on loan at Barnsley and we are looking forward to working with him this season.

We are also hopeful of recruiting a striker, who will provide some additional firepower to the squad, before the window closes.

Overall, I have been very pleased with the recruitment we have done this window and I’m sure you will all agree that the quality within the camp is far greater than it has been for some time with the manager having plenty of options and cover.

As much as I love Ken, if he's going to keep pushing these shirts he should be modelling them himself.

Whilst I fully anticipated the signing announcement followed immediately by this press release (it being a good day for both seeing as there's still time to sell more shirts and tickets before Saturday) the key phrase in this was the reaffirmation of the intent to bring in a striker before the end of the window.

Parky's built a decent defence, but we will need more up front before the season is over.

To battle back from two goals down and earn a point away from home against our Lancashire rivals Preston North End firmly underlines the character we have within the camp.

I thought we did enough to come back into the game and win it, and we can consider ourselves unfortunate not to have maintained our 100% record away from home.

Over 4,000 travelling Wanderers fans made the short trip and were magnificent throughout the game. Your support – home and away – helps and inspires the players.

We now go into the international break in sixth position of the table – and I’m pretty sure we would have all settled for that before the season kicked off.

I have to say that this transfer window has perhaps been one of the more challenging ones in my experience.

Strikers are a prized commodity and it is obvious to see why managers and owners are reluctant to sell them.

To gauge the state of the market you only need to look at some of the Premier League teams who have loaned players to Championship sides. The kinds of wages they are commanding, reportedly in the region of £40,000 to £80,000 a week and the huge fees clubs are paying, are quite frankly mind blowing and perfectly illustrate the challenges we are facing and the ever increasing competitiveness at the higher end of the table.

We worked very hard on three deals leading up to the loan window closing on Friday which would have given the manager plenty of options up front.

That said, we managed to bring in the manager’s prime target in Christian Doidge, whom we are absolutely delighted in welcoming to the University of Bolton Stadium.

We were very close with two other forwards, Liam Boyce of Burton Albion and Derby County’s David Nugent, and we will definitely seek out options again for January.

We had a deal agreed with Derby for Nugent but he ultimately decided that he wanted to fight for his place there. While Burton decided that they wanted Boyce to remain with them despite our placing of a seven-figure bid.

The recruitment of Christian brings our total number of senior new arrivals at the club this summer to 14, which has improved the overall quality of the squad and given the manager more options when selecting a team.

Christian was very highly valued at Forest Green Rovers, which is easy to see why considering his prolific strike rate. He was on the manager’s and recruitment team’s radar for quite a long time and it was a case of sheer persistence on our part to get the deal over the line ahead of the 5pm deadline. I am sure all our fans will welcome him to the club.

I’d also like to wish Connor Hall every success with his loan spell at our Lancashire neighbours Accrington Stanley. As the manager has said, Connor has outgrown under 23s football and he will definitely benefit from league football as part of his ongoing education. We will be closely watching his progress at Stanley.

We now have the break going into the weekend ahead of the international fixtures which gives the players an opportunity to take a short, well-earned rest from competitive action but you can rest assured that they will be working hard to continue the excellent progress they have made going into the fixture against QPR on Saturday 15 September at the University of Bolton Stadium.

After such a good start to the season it feels somewhat frustrating that we have a weekend free of domestic football, but I suppose it does give an opportunity for the players to have a well-earned rest from competitive action.

They haven’t let up at the training ground and I know the manager and staff have been working very hard with the players as usual in readiness for the QPR game on Saturday 15th September at the University of Bolton Stadium.

We have a couple of players representing their countries during this break and I’d like to wish Josh Magennis all the best for his duty with Northern Ireland, who take on Bosnia & Herzegovina and Israel, while I must congratulate our under 18s ‘keeper Callum James for his call-up to Wales under 19s for their two matches against their Republic of Ireland counterparts.

Our impressive start to the season has been recognised elsewhere with both the manager and Ben Alnwick being shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship August Manager and Player of the Month respectively. Both of these nominations are fully deserved.

It was also pleasing to see both Pawel Olkowski and Mark Beevers make it into Sky Sports’ team of the month for August, this XI was based on the match statistics from each player.

This recognition is most pleasing to see as it validates our own optimism. One thing I can assure you all though is that there will be no complacency and we will strive to make September an even better month.

So, please ensure that you continue to support the lads both home and away as all of you really make a difference.

The atmosphere generated by the Wanderers fans at Preston North End was absolutely superb and even at 2-0 down you never wavered. That level of backing and noise inspires the players.

Last week, I saw an impressive stat which shows that we currently have the third highest average away support in the Championship. Only Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City have a greater average.

Let’s keep this up and look to build our home attendances too.

Earlier this week, we were delighted to confirm that the club and hotel will be staging the World Final of the IberCup in May next year.

Over 300 of the best youth teams in the world will participate in this tournament, with many of them staying at Bolton Whites.

We look forward to staging this prestigious tournament and a huge congratulations must go to the hotel general manager Suzanne Speak and her team for their hard work in ensuring that the tournament organisers selected our venue.

I’m sure that like me you will have all really missed watching Bolton Wanderers in action at the weekend.
The international break does have its benefits, in that the players can enjoy a well-deserved rest from competitive action, but given the tremendous start we’ve experienced we didn’t want the break to happen just yet!
That said, the players have worked tremendously hard on the training ground and it does give that little bit of extra time for the new players in the squad to get to know their team mates better and for them to acclimatise to their new surroundings.
They are all eager to get back out on to the field of play at the University of Bolton Stadium and resume from where they left off.
Saturday’s opponents, QPR, are at the other end of the table and will be looking to try and build up some momentum to get points on the board. I expect the game to be a tough encounter and one which we must be at the top of our game to get something from the contest.
As we saw at Preston, just before the break, our travelling army of fans really helped inspire the players to bounce back into the game. Every one of you who was at Deepdale really played your part.

The weekend just gone marked the 130th anniversary of the first Football League round of matches. The history books will always show that Bolton Wanderers Football Club were one of the founder members and it is something that we are very proud of. Indeed, one of our own home grown players, Kenny Davenport, had the honour of scoring the league’s first ever goal. That honour is permanently remembered in a plaque that was placed near to the original site of Pikes Lane, our former ground prior to moving to Burnden Park in 1895, almost two years ago.
Although the game has changed and society has progressed significantly over those 130 years, the love and passion of football has never faltered and it’s imperative that as the custodian of this great football institution I make sure the club can continue to entertain the good people of Bolton for many more years to come.

I have of course seen this evening's Bolton News article and I am very disappointed that Stuart Wilson and Michael Henson of Blu Marble Capital Ltd have decided to reject my offer to repay the loan they originally made to the club through Sportshield Ltd and place the club in administration.

The amount received by the club was £4m and l offered to repay this plus substantial interest. Unfortunately, this offer was rejected.

As they come to understand and appreciate the consequences and repercussions of this action, l feel sure that they will live to regret their actions for what can only have been personal reasons as their actions do not make commercial sense.

As l understand it they are currently taking legal action against their own lawyers in respect of a negligence claim on the original transaction with Sportshield Ltd and are expecting to receive substantial compensation from the lawyers' PI insurance and this may explain their actions.

They will now need to fund the club administration going forward, which will take a minimum of three months and will automatically put the club in a two-year transfer embargo and a minimum immediate points deduction of 12 points.

In my opinion, their actions will substantially reduce the value of the club in respect of any future sale and will make it far more difficult to find a future investor/buyer.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the three debenture holders who all agreed to make concessions in order to try and reach a settlement with Blu Marble, but unfortunately these were not accepted and they will all now play a major part in the administration discussions going forward.

I will continue to do everything possible to help the club and have let the administrators know that l will do my best to assist them.

The larger question is what DeanO's responsibility is in this.  He made the promises and KA has seemingly tried to negotiate a close to this.  Hopefully this will be resolved before administration... often it goes down to the wire... but it may not be KA's fault... rather DeanO's.  And Johnny is right...  let's get behind the club and be somewhat nicer to each other.

I am not one of those who have used the C word to describe Anderson, however I would point out that there are plenty of Anderson's critics who are genuine fans of the club and believe it is in the club's interest to get rid.
It's presumptive to assume they have not got the club's best interests at heart and it's a cheap shot to suggest that because they would prefer a different approach than you, they are not supporters.
