would you shoot me down if, hypothetically city's owners were Dutch and I called them all a bunch of stoners? yes, its a generalisation but nobody would have batted an eyelid... really they wouldn't, but its the same thing.

many times people have referd to Owen Coyle on here as a 'stupid Scottish prick' - nobody reacts to that.

I also find it a little annoying that BWFC1871 has jumped on the 'PC bandwagon' without commenting on my post - becasue he thought 'oh, great, il look really cool and liberal here'...

when not so long ago he called Natasha a 'daft bint'

but that's ok I suppose... Suspect

'Daft bint' isn't really racism though Rebel (you can correct me if Im wrong) -if I even said that.

I can assure you that correcting other posters on an internet BWFC forum does not make me feel particularly cool or liberal.

Judging by your comparison of 'rag head' to 'potato lovers' and pot-smokers' I can safely say our definitions of racism are quite different.

Obviously you think your post gains something from being a bit racist, when the word owners would of got your point across. Continue to do so if you want, but don't be surprised if not everyone shares your warped views.

In the main, I agree with RR.

My friend from school is half German. Her life was made miserable because of it, but because she was German as opposed to Asian or Black, it was nothing the teachers felt they needed ever tend to.

I never said calling her a daft bint was racist...

but its very 'un PC'

could you explain how referring to the Dutch as pot smokers or the irish as potato lovers is less racist than calling someone from the UAE a rag head?

I didn't even think my post was racist, Ive asked somebody who is a Muslim and has been to Dubai several times if he found it racist... he said no.

He agrees with me that political correctness is taken to far.

he also does not know what the 'tea towel thing' is called - he calls it a tea towel thing/rag too...

You're right, if your muslim friend who has been to Dubai several times says so then 'rag head' isn't a racist word. Rolling Eyes

You mention that if you described the Dutch as pot smokers, nobody would care. Probably correct, so here's the difference.

'Rag-head'- has been used for a long time by idiots to describe Arabs in a derogatory way. You may not of meant it to be derogatory but that's how it appears in my eyes.

'Pot smokers'- is not derogatory in any way, more of an observation. I doubt anybody has ever used it to try and insult the Dutch, and doesn't refer to race or creed. Hence not racist.

For what it's worth I agree that the racism card is overplayed quite often, but this is not one of those times.

Actually the closest translation is 'to bring together'.... some of the press at the time of the unveiling of the sponsor twisted it to say united because when you put that phrase through a thesaurus it comes up with 'unite' which is only one letter away from 'united'!

Another urban-myth busted!Cool

fail (ish)...

The MEN contacted Mohammed Nizami, at the Manchester City council
translation service in the town hall, who said the correct translation
for Etihad was 'Unity'.

But when asked if the word could also mean 'United' he consulted
an arabic dictionary and said: "Yes, it can also stand for union,
alliance, friendship and united."

Actually you have proved my point by taking a peice from the press!!!

Its still a derogatory Generalisation though isn't it?

were do you stand on calling the Irish potato lovers? isn't that as terribly offensive as 'rag head'

anyway, I apologise for the use of rag head...

upon further inspection, I believe it resembles a Tea towel more...

I assume a tea towel is quite a modern thing and so does not have the same 'old derogatory connotations' that you find so offensive. I will edit my original post and change it to 'tea towel head' ... is that ok? actually, il change it to 'The thing I or nobody else knows the name of, that resembles a tea towel' ... just to avoid any element of doubt that im implying that its an ACTUAL tea towel. ok?

We'll have to check with Rebel's Muslim friend who's been to Dubai 3 times, whether or not 'Daft Bint' is racist.

He seems to be the authority on these matters.

after consulting with my Muslim friend, I can conclude that 'daft bint' is not racist.

it is however sexist and offensive nonetheless...

unless of course you were referring to the 'Arab' translation of 'bint' (I had to look this up on an on-line dictionary due to my high level of ignorance and racist traits - you would have had no such problems)

[Arabic, daughter; see bn in Semitic roots.]

you were calling her an Arabs daughter...

the comment was aimed as a 'blow' at nat - thus yuo meant it in a derogatory way now, im pretty sure that Nat is not the daughter of an Arab, thus you calling her a bint could be construed as racist.

now, what problem do you have with the daughters of Arabs Rolling Eyes ?

As we are talking racism, PC, sexism etc

I got abit of a shock the other day when I logged onto facebook with regards to one of my friends status'. She had gone to Prague with two of her best friends, who are black. Anyway she posted a photo of them together at a meal and the captain she put underneath was "thankyou nigga bitches for a great birthday" (that was word for word). After they had come back I did actually ask as to why it was put - she said she was thanking them, which I gathered, and that it is more a term of endearment especially with the Dutchies, no matter of colour or race.

I have heard it a few times over the 5.5 years I have been here and each time I have been shocked to hear it but in each circumstance it has been in a situation where no malice is even thought of!!!

Again using google I managed to find this definition of a bint- a slightly derogatory, almost affectionate, term for a young woman. The latter being associated more with usage in the West Midlands. The term was used in British armed forces and the London area synonymously with (the slang meaning of) 'bird' from at least the 1950s.

Slighly derogatory and almost affectionate? Given some of the things I've seen said to her on here, I'd say that's one of the better ones to be honest.

You really can prove any garbage point you want to with google.

This really is boring now Rebel, you continue being casually racist if you think its necessary. I will ignore it from now on.

Rebel, I was just highlighting the difference between political incorrectness and actual racism.

If you make a racist comment and someone takes exception to it, it's not a valid response to accuse them of being 'part of the PC brigade' I'm afraid. You can call them 'part of the anti-racism brigade' if you like I guess.

Now not that I want the Venkies etc.....but if Blackburn and other even smaller clubs are being bought out then why not us. Your not telling me they are a more attractive club???
